"Between the Two Great Wars" is an epic novel - the story of a
young soldier in World War I who following several hair-raising
adventures (one in the accompaniment of Ernest Hemingway) returns
home ambitious to make his way in the world from the humblest
beginnings to quite considerable achievements, including wealth,
community prominence, marriage to a beautiful girl, and the birth
of a son. He lives through the prohibition era, the flapper era,
the 1919 flu epidemic, the Sacco-Vanzetti trial, the stock market
crash of 1929, the depression years, meanwhile becoming involved in
several sexual liaisons. Conflict develops as the novel progresses
to the beginning of World War II when the son, against his father's
wishes. volunteers for military duty. Two strong characters who
love each other ultimately must find a way to come to terms.
