Albert Finney, Aidan Quinn and Robin Wright Penn star in this romantic drama. In 1957, a travelling acting troupe known as the 'The Playboys' arrives in a small village in Southern Ireland and one of the actors, Tom (Quinn), falls for headstrong unmarried mother Tara (Wright Penn). The town's police sergeant, Brendan Hegarty (Finney), has aggressively, but unsuccessfully, pursued Tara for a long time, making it inevitable that the two rivals will fight for her attention.
