This book is for parents with teens that will soon be drivers. As
seasoned drivers, we sometimes forget to point out some of the
issues that our teens will face behind the wheel. Some seemingly
common sense precautions have become so automatic to us that we
don't notice we are doing them. It has been scientifically proven
that the brain's frontal lobe, or cerebral cortex, does not mature
until about the age of 25. This is the area of the brain that
controls logic-problem solving and possible consequences-or what
most of us consider as common sense. Hence, what we see as logical,
the teen does not. I have attempted to present these points with
humor and snippets of experiences with my teens, but the most
important aspect of this book is to make your teen aware that
driving is indeed an art, and hopefully one that they will strive
to perform with the utmost skill. There is a Driver's Quiz at the
end. I hope that these thoughts and questions will prove
challenging to your teen and will entice you, the parent, to share
your thoughts and experiences as well.
