Each of the game's 35 characters has its own special weapon and devastating move, but in addition to this, because players will face hordes of enemies in a variety of situations, Samurai Warriors 3 features a variety of attacks that allow characters to unleash varying levels of damage. The most basic of these are Normal Attacks. These simple yet powerful strokes and thrusts are easily merged into rapid fire combos that make standard close combat easy to pick up. The game also features a variety of more advanced gauge-reliant attacks. These include the Spirit Charge, the devastating combos of the slow-motion based Musou Attack and the unparalleled power of the Ultimate Musou Attacks.
