Three-part sequence of plays filmed in the 1960s featuring Sean
Connery, Michael Caine and narration from Laurence Olivier. Anna
Calder-Marshall stars as Mary MacNeil, a young woman who struggles
to form a satisfactory relationship with any man. As well as facing
up to the demands of her sexist and confrontational father
(Connery), Mary must deal with the smooth charm of playboy
Cornelius (Caine), who becomes besotted with her. Mary is also
romanced by Emlyn Bowen (Paul Scofield), a QC who is several years
older than her and seems to possess the compassion, respect and
tolerance her father so badly lacks. Which of the three men, if
any, will ultimately win her heart?
