Evan Almighty (DVD)

Not dissimilar to Field of Dreams in many ways, this comic fantasy is ideal for the whole family! Former local TV newsman Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) is elected to congress on the platform of his slogan: “Change the world!” However, God (a marvellous performance by Morgan Freeman) interrupts Evan’s new-found career to telling him that first he and his family must go and build an ark because of an imminent flood that will be coming. Evan is hardly obliging…until pairs of animal and birds start arriving from nowhere, and follow him right into Congress! Powerful senior congressman Chuck Long (John Goodman is) not impressed by all this, and has Evan suspended.

As construction o the ark progresses, Evan becomes to resemble Noah of old more and more…and like his ancient predecessor: even when the rains come, the people still mock him for what he is doing! But then God takes a hand…

Watch John Michael Higgins as Marty – the party’s whiz-kid, who is a walking reference book on everyone and everything in Washington. It’s all marvellous fun!

The great musical core is by John Debny.
