Near Sacramento, numerous trails access the Central Valley's
wildlife-filled wetlands and traverse riverside forests and
grasslands. The California capital has numerous nearby trails that
access the Central Valley's once extensive wetlands and marshes,
and explore the sinuous swaths of riverside forests and broad
expanses of open grasslands. Just a short distance from Sacramento
the trails in the Coast Range and Sierra foothills climb
oak-clothed ridgetops and traverse rugged river canyons. Farther
uphill in the Sierra Nevada, hikers enjoy scenic waterfalls,
wildflower studded meadows, and high mountain lakes. Intrepid hiker
Steve Evans has selected the 43 ?must-do? hikes in Top Trails
Sacramento, the only guidebook specifically targeting the region's
outdoor enthusiasts. Most trips are within two hours of the city
with trails ranging from 1 to 10 miles and sea level to 9000 feet
including elevation profiles, detailed maps, driving directions,
and ?don?t get lost? trail milestones.
