The New Testament tells us that Jesus came to earth at the perfect time-and planet earth hasn't been the same since. Jesus was born in a country occupied by foreign troops, and that is how the political landscape is portrayed here.
This retelling of the story of God's coming to us in human form has been removed from the Shakespearean stage where we like to keep it, and has been returned to street level where we live-where it actually happened. Setting the gospel in modern times is not a new idea, but this adaptation is more than just an intellectual exercise-it poses the question: If He had come to our time, how would we have responded to the Savior, without the benefit of two millennia of history and tradition to help us understand and accept who He is?
