Today's families are made up of variations of the traditional
families of years gone by. Grandparents oftentimes step in to raise
their grandchildren. Aunts and uncles and older brothers and
sisters may also fulfill the role of mom and dad for children. In
this story, a little girl and her siblings move in with their
grandparents when their own parents go to jail. The family dynamics
are confusing to the children. And, when the girl's teacher has
everyone create their family tree for a school project, the girl is
embarrassed and reluctant to let her classmates know about her
family. That is, until she hears what family life is like for her
peers. This is a wonderful story to share with children who may be
dealing with similar circumstance and with children whose
classmates and friends may be going through difficult times.
