"A beautifully written glimpse into heaven that will encourage
those who doubt and thrill those who believe."
--Ron Hall, coauthor of "Same Kind of Different as Me"
"Do you remember the hospital, Colton?" Sonja said. "Yes, mommy,
I remember," he said. "That's where the angels sang to me."
When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his
family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren't
expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that
followed--a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing
their little boy's trip to heaven and back.
Colton, not yet four years old, told his parents he left his
body during the surgery-and authenticated that claim by describing
exactly what his parents were doing in another part of the hospital
while he was being operated on. He talked of visiting heaven and
relayed stories told to him by people he met there whom he had
never met in life, sharing events that happened even before he was
born. He also astonished his parents with descriptions and obscure
details about heaven that matched the Bible exactly, though he had
not yet learned to read.
With disarming innocence and the plainspoken boldness of a
child, Colton tells of meeting long-departed family members. He
describes Jesus, the angels, how "really, really big" God is, and
how much God loves us. Retold by his father, but using Colton's
uniquely simple words, "Heaven Is for Real" offers a glimpse of the
world that awaits us, where as Colton says, "Nobody is old and
nobody wears glasses."
"Heaven Is for Real" will forever change the way you think of
eternity, offering the chance to see, and believe, like a
child.

I was a bit sceptical when I saw that this book was the true story of a 3-and-a-bit-year-old’s visit to heaven when he was undergoing surgery for a burst appendix. I was a sent a complimentary copy for review by Booksneeze.com. Despite myself I found myself enjoying this family’s testimony of how God looked after them in a very difficult period of their lives.
The claims of little Colton do not contradict scripture, although one detail of people getting wings did throw me, even though he makes a clear distinction between people and angels. I enjoyed the childlike faith in God that Colton expressed that some many adults have lost. I loved that the angels sang to him during his operation because he was scared but refused his request to sing ‘We will rock you’.
Finishing this book I longed that Colton’s testimony be proven to be true – God gave this family the reassurance that all things are in His hands, even when it looks like things are falling apart and perhaps he gave a small boy a glimpse of heaven to prove it to them. It made me wonder that if my image of heaven is true and if in my heart of hearts I really believe it to be real.

"Heaven is for Real" is written by Todd Burpo, Colton Burpo's father. At three years of age, Colton has an experience of a lifetime, when he has to undergo an emergency apendectomy: He went to Heaven! After first setting the scene by describing the family's few months prior to this experience, Todd shares with us how they discovered that Colton went to heaven and what he learnt while he was there.
This is no quick process. How could it be?! Colton experienced heaven! It takes a few years to unfold all that he experienced. It is almost as if God allows Colton to slowly share his experience with others by choosing moments to relate it to real life experiences.
He experienced the past, the present and the future in a few brief moments. God is big, really, really big and a few moments in Heaven gave Colton some beautiful revelations to share with his family.
Yes, reading it at times leaves you thinking: Is this really what Heaven is like? It certainly got me thinking! Todd and his wife also seemed to take a while to accept what their child was sharing with them. But when Colton starts to share some of what he experienced Todd is reminded of scriptures which back up Colton's experience. Scriptures his three year old hadn't been exposed to before in any great detail.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick easy read but it challenged me to think about what I believed about Heaven.

Absolutely loved this book!
The writing style of the author allows you to step into his world, feels like you are right there living out the experiences with him.
I do feel that there could be alot more included but I guess his son has alot more that he hasn't shared yet.
Finished it within 6 hours, it was that good!
Also gave me a wake up call as to how much God really loves us. :)
