New York vegetable wholesaler Allen Bauer (Tom Hanks) meets and
falls in love with the beautiful Madison (Daryl Hannah), but
problems arise from her somewhat fishy behaviour. For Madison is
actually a mermaid, any contact with water returning her to her
aquatic form. Her attempts to come to grips with life on terra
ferma are further complicated by a group of government scientists,
who are eager to reel her into their observation tank.
