The William Walton edition is a collected edition of the works of
one of England's finest and best-loved composers. Each work is
newly edited and engraved, and checked against the composer's
manuscript, previously published editions, and all other relevant
material. The result is a definitive and fully practical edition,
based on the form in which the composer ultimately wished it to be
performed. Choral music preoccupied Walton throughout his life and
developed from his experience as a chorister at Christ Church,
Oxford. Alongside Belshazzar's Feast, these four larger-scale works
for chorus and orchestra stand testimony to his expertise in the
field, and include the orchestral version of The Twelve,
commissioned with words by W. H. Auden by his former Oxford college
in 1965.
