New Gamboge - pigment change Originally produced using Gamboge, a coloured gum from the Garcinia plant, Artists' Water Colour Gamboge was discontinued in 2005, due to its toxic characteristics. Its replacement was a different shade, due to the pigments available and renamed New Gamboge. Due to the above pigment discontinuation, New Gamboge, in both Professional Water Colour and Cotman, has been reformulated once again and, with advances in pigment technology, the colour is much closer to its original namesake, delivering greater authenticity within the spectrum. The pigments have changed from Nickel Dioxine PY153 to Quinacridone PR209 & Azo Nickel Complex PY150
