A laugh-out loud read where the narrator speaks directly to readers
while attempting to create The Greatest Book in the World! Rudolf
Wordsmith requests that readers finish his rhyming couplets and
admonishes them when theyre tricked into supplying a rude rhyme.
This trickery is achieved through clever text and lively
illustrations created by Dave Atze. As the readers rude rhymes
cause the illustrator to draw Rudolf in humiliating predicaments,
he becomes increasingly frustrated. This culminates in a surprising
and hilarious ending that will have children howling with laughter.
In Typeset in the Future, blogger and designer Dave Addey invites
sci-fi movie fans on a journey through seven genre-defining
classics, discovering how they create compelling visions of the
future through typography and design. The book delves deep into
2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Alien, Blade
Runner, Total Recall, WALL*E, and Moon, studying the design tricks
and inspirations that make each film transcend mere celluloid and
become a believable reality. These studies are illustrated by film
stills, concept art, type specimens, and ephemera, plus original
interviews with Mike Okuda (Star Trek), Paul Verhoeven (Total
Recall), and Ralph Eggleston and Craig Foster (Pixar). Typeset in
the Future is an obsessively geeky study of how classic sci-fi
movies draw us in to their imagined worlds-and how they have come
to represent "THE FUTURE" in popular culture.

Delve the mountain deep! When the first dwarves reached the surface
of Golarion, they built enormous keeps as a monument to their
legacy and to serve as their new home. The mightiest of these keeps
was Highhelm, a Sky Citadel deep in the Five Kings Mountains. While
other Sky Citadels have fallen since the Quest for Sky, Highhelm
holds strong, serving as one of the major centers of dwarven
culture. Lost Omens Highhelm delves deep into the Emperor's Peak to
present Highhelm in all its glory. This book details everyday life
in the city, dwarven culture, and the various clans that influence
the Sky Citadel. It also provides a full gazetteer of the city's
layers and surroundings, each with adventuring locations and sites
of intrigue suitable for a multitude of adventures. An included
poster map presents Highhelm's layers in high detail and serves as
an aid for campaigns centered on the dwarven city. Characters
looking for new options can visit Highhelm for new equipment,
ancestry feats, animal companions, and more!
Global Change and Forest Soils: Cultivating Stewardship of a Finite
Natural Resource, Volume 36, provides a state-of-the-science
summary and synthesis of global forest soils that identifies
concerns, issues and opportunities for soil adaptation and
mitigation as external pressures from global changes arise. Where,
how and why some soils are resilient to global change while others
are at risk is explored, as are upcoming train wrecks and success
stories across boreal, temperate, and tropical forests. Each
chapter offers multiple sections written by leading soil scientists
who comment on wildfires, climate change and forest harvesting
effects, while also introducing examples of current global issues.
Readers will find this book to be an integrated, up-to-date
assessment on global forest soils.
Imagine the Impossible! In a land still scarred by a war between
two undying archmages and their respective nations, reality defies
the rules binding the rest of the world. Cities crafted by wishes
and fields harvested by the walking dead lay in between lands where
magic warps and twists with an undefinable will. Explore the
history of immortal wizard kings, wield explosive and unusual
technology, and channel awe-inspiring legends in a region where the
present is still haunted by the past, and echoes of destruction
still shudder across the minds and souls of those who brave the
Impossible Lands!
Companion title to The Astounding Illustrated History of Science
Fiction this new book reflects the same roots in Gothic literature
but follows a complementary path through the 20th century, to the
movies of Peter Jackson, the success of streaming TV series such as
Grimm, and the fantasy of Neil Gaiman's American Gods. From the
wellspring of Frankenstein, Germanic fairy tales, and heroic, epic
myths a dark and fantastic path can be found to the fragmentation
of the 1930s: the schlock horror of early modern movies, the
invention of High Fantasy by Tolkien and fellow Inkling C.S. Lewis,
and the pulp magazine powerhouse Weird Tales with Robert E.
Howard's sword and sorcery archetype Conan. A brilliant concoction
of movie posters, stills, book covers, fantastic art and incredible
timelines.

This book will inspire, challenge and engage you-and transform your
teaching and learning. Each chapter in this book is written by a
different educator or team about their experiences with
project-based learning, both in and out of the classroom. They
reflect not only on the how of project-based learning, but more
importantly, on the what and the why. They offer insight into how
connecting with learners, honouring their experiences, and
promoting deep and rich questioning can be the path to powerful
projects and learning. Their writing and thinking is saturated with
empathy, expertise, a desire to improve their practice, and an
acknowledgment of the need to collaborate.
Yuck is the master of all things disgusting in these two
tales--especially when he adds a squirmy pet and some gross-out
tricks to the mix.
In "Yuck's Pet Worm," Yuck has a new pet--a worm called Fang.
"Worms are disgusting " his sister Polly says. "You can't have a
worm in the house " Mom says. But Yuck thinks worms are awesome But
when he trains Fang to do disgusting tricks, things start to wiggle
out of control....
In "Yuck's Rotten Joke," Polly's report card is full of stars for
good behavior, while Yuck doesn't have any. He needs to score some
by the end of the week, or he'll be in BIG TROUBLE. Using his
collection of practical jokes--from itching powder to
Dogididapoo--can Yuck make sure he has the last laugh?
From Dave Eggers: For this year's edition of The Best American
Nonrequired Reading, we wanted to expand the scope of the book to
include shorter pieces, and fragments of stories, and transcripts,
screenplays, television scripts -- lots of things that we hadn't
included before. Our publisher readily agreed, and so you'll see
that this year's edition is far more eclectic in form than previous
editions. Along the way to making the book, we also came across a
variety of things that didn't fit neatly anywhere, but which we
felt should be included, so we conceived the front section, which
is a loose Best American roundup of notable words and sentences
from 2005. It is, like this book in general, obviously and
completely incomplete, but might be interesting nevertheless.
Nigel Wallaby every year visits all his 12 Bush mates on a 12 month
walkabout that takes Nigel Wallaby all over Australia. Nigel on
walkabout is both educational and a wonderful journey from start to
finish. The story telling by Dave Tonash along with the
illustrations of Matt Wilson brings all the Bush Mates to a larger
than life story with a very happy Christmas ending. A truly
refreshing Christmas Book for one to treasure.
