Microorganisms can even leach valuable minerals from low- grade ores. Staphylococcus aureus able to protect themselves against radicals and oxidants by producing carotenoid pigments. A golden yellow pigment called staphyloxanthin which is a precursor of - carotene has antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties in both in vivo and in vitro models. The book consists of evaluating the antioxidant property of pigment staphyloxanthin produced by S. aureus isolated from bovine mastitis samples against CCl4 induced stress in albino mice . The inference drawn in the present study is based on morphological, antibiogram, biochemical parameters of staphylococcus aureus and oxidative stress parameters in albino mice. This study was carried out at the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology Karnatak University, Dharwad. The bacterial strains were collected from various clinical samples like urine, infected blood, pus, wound swabs, catheters and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from different inpatients of Karnatak Institute of Medical sciences (KIMS), Civil Hospital, and local hospitals and Nursing Homes of Hubli-Dharwad. One thousand fifty individuals were included in the study, seven hundred and fifty males, and three hundred females.For isolation and identification of Staphylococcus aureus the samples were inoculated on nutrient agar and selective medium, mannitol salt agar (MSA). The characteristic colonies producing golden yellow or cream, round, raised regular colonies on nutrient agar and yellow coloration around MSA were presumptively selected as total of 675 Staphylococcus spp. isolates were procured. These isolates were subjected for cultural, microscopical and biochemical analysis for confirmation

Homicide is the most serious crime as old as civilization and reported as early as in the Bible. Homicide is defined as killing of one human being by another human being and is one of the leading causes of unnatural deaths. Since ages the very reason or motive for these killings has remained the same viz - lust for money, women and land. To commit murder, two elements ("Mens - rea" which means preplanning or afore thought and "Actus reus" which means the actual execution) should work together to constitute the crime. The various patterns of homicidal deaths include assault by sharp weapon, blunt weapon, firearms, strangulation, homicidal hanging, smothering, drowning, burns, poisoning etc. The incidence of homicide is increasing world wide and the pattern is also changing because of population explosion, changing life style, modern needs of the man and easy availability of various type of weapons.Hence the present study was taken up to know the pattern of injuries, age and sex distribution of victims, relationship of victim with the offenders, place of occurrence and motive behind the homicides etc.
