Integration, Growth, and Cohesion in an Enlarged European Union (Hardcover, 2005 ed.): John Bradley, George G. Petrakos, Julia... Integration, Growth, and Cohesion in an Enlarged European Union (Hardcover, 2005 ed.)
John Bradley, George G. Petrakos, Julia Traistaru
R4,546 Discovery Miles 45 460 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book contributes fresh theoretical and empirical evidence on patterns of regional production structures, specialization, regional disparities, convergence and divergence processes and evaluation of cohesion policies in both current and future European Union (EU) member states in the context of increased integration. These subjects are addressed in both individual and cross-country analyses using innovative methodologies. The book is an essential reading for a large audience including researchers and policy makers working in the fields of economic integration, transition economics and regional development. The thirteen contributions brought together in this book are the result of recent research undertaken in the framework of a larger project initiated and coordinated by the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) of the University of Bonn on determinants of regional specialization, growth and convergence in the context of European integration. A number of these papers were presented to a conference on "European integration, regional convergence, location of industrial activity and labour market adjustment" initiated by the Center for European Integration Studies of the University of Bonn and organized jointly with the Center for European Studies of the University "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" of Iasi, Romania. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support from the European Commission Framework Programme and the Center for European Integration Studies of the University of Bonn.

The Impact of European Integration on Regional Structural Change and Cohesion (Paperback): Christiane Krieger-Boden, Edgar... The Impact of European Integration on Regional Structural Change and Cohesion (Paperback)
Christiane Krieger-Boden, Edgar Morgenroth, George Petrakos
R1,452 Discovery Miles 14 520 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Edited by three European editors and spanning across Europe, this excellent study focuses on the effects of the European integration process on the inter-regional division of labour in both western and Eastern European countries. Using extensive empirical analysis of the changes of regional specialization over a period of two decades, observing its causes and consequences the authors show economic integration as a relocation of resources across sectors and space. The authors argue that the resulting challenge to both regional and social cohesion in the enlarged European Union may require a reorientation of cohesion policy at European, national and local levels. Disaggregated national data sets with respect to both the sectoral and spatial levels are combined with an analysis of both regional structural change and the role of foreign direct investment in this process. This book will be of great interest to post graduate students and researchers interested in international trade and regional economics as well as policy makers engaged with regional and structural changes at both a European and national level.

Chronography - parallel text, Greek and English (Hardcover): Robert McCabe Chronography - parallel text, Greek and English (Hardcover)
Robert McCabe; Introduction by Vasileios Petrakos
R1,548 Discovery Miles 15 480 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The Archaeological Society of Athens is celebrating its 180th anniversary in December 2017 with the publication of a collection of photographs taken in the 1950s of major Greek Archaeological sites, most of which the Society has had a role in excavating and studying. The photographs were taken by the American photographer Robert McCabe primarily during his first two visits to Greece in 1954 and 1955. The sites represented include Athens, Delphi, Rhodes, Mycenae, Ancient Thera, Corinth, and Methoni. Many things that interested McCabe were things that the Greeks took for granted but he was seeing for the first time and wanted to record: the light and shadow revealing the shapes and masses of the ruins, the guard taking refuge from the noon-day sun, the lone figure of a woman on a deserted dirt road under the Acropolis-all take on symbolic meaning. a floor worn by water and millenniums of footsteps presents a play of shadows that dance to the whims of the sun. Everything interests him: the peaceful railroad station at Mycenae, the photographer at Delphi, the marble workers with their chisels-all bear witness to a lost world that few remember. Introduction by Vasileios Petrakos, the President of the Archaeological Society of Athens. 196 original b&w photographs, printed in tritone.
