"As "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," and "Harry Potter," were for people of all ages. "Edge of Tomorrow" will also excite the imagination with thought provoking unanswered questions about the origins of mankind, religion, and history, while taking the reader on one adventure after another."

When an old friend asks a washed-up telepathic archeologist, Nathan Masterson, and his gifted dog Duke, to help unlock the mysteries of a very unique cave system along the British Columbia coast, a series of events would unfold that would open a vast subterranean tunnel system. A system filled with many unbelievable creatures and an ancient alien race, whose leader reveals the true origins of mankind.

Then after returning home to northwest Montana, a local veterinarian, Patricia Smith, is attacked on Halloween. After Masterson and his family offer their protection they find out a Colombian drug-lord and tomb robber, Beltran Velasco is behind the attack and will stop at nothing to get his hands on the ancient medallion she has.

After the FBI and CIA get involved, Masterson puts together a full exploration team and make their way to an ancient temple complex atop a mountain in northern Guatemala where Valasco's people have already zeroed in on. It is here the exploration team is sent on a quest through yet another underworld system, full of monsters, huge cities, and great adventures, far below Central and South America.

Meanwhile the FBI AND CIA uncover a plot to kill the president after investigating the secret society the Velasco's are involved with.

Speaking of Gods in Figure and Narrative (Hardcover): D. Westbrook Speaking of Gods in Figure and Narrative (Hardcover)
D. Westbrook
R1,470 Discovery Miles 14 700 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"Speaking of Gods in Figure and Narrative" analyzes the figurative-narrative creation of gods, their heavenly abodes, and behaviors, reaching back to the beginning of history in Sumer, Babylon, Egypt, Persia, and Greece, and continuing through a biblical tradition that includes the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and the Qur'an. Each culture leaves its linguistic residue for the next to incorporate into its sacred texts, resulting in the perpetuation and validation of ancient imagining, attitudes, and ideas.

Wordsworth's Biblical Ghosts (Hardcover, New): D. Westbrook Wordsworth's Biblical Ghosts (Hardcover, New)

R1,474 Discovery Miles 14 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Bible serves Wordsworth as a basis for his poetry and poetics, providing language, images, figures, and importantly, a paradigm of poetic genres. Working from three interrelated critical approaches--intertextuality, poetics, and metaphysics--Deeanne Westbrook first analyzes Wordsworth’s theory and practice as these reflect the New Testament doctrine of the Incarnation. Subsequent chapters consider Wordsworth’s adaptation of biblical narrative forms--etymological tales, parables, and mystical allegories. Closing chapters examine some extraordinary linguistic innovations in Wordsworth’s revisions of biblical apocalypse, techniques that permit the poet to express the ineffable and to reveal nothing.

April D. Westbrook
R1,525 Discovery Miles 15 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

April Westbrook explores the intentional inclusion of woman stories (those displaying significant female presence) within the David narrative in the books of Samuel. These stories are made prominent by the surprisingly high number of their occurrences as well as the sequentially progressive literary pattern in which they occur in the larger narrative. Westbrook shows that the dramatic and detailed accounts within the story repeatedly challenge the reader to consider the experiences of women and their contribution to the purpose of the larger narrative. When viewed collectively, these woman stories serve to stir the reader's responses in ways which systematically call into question the nature of the monarchy itself as a power system-both its impact upon the nation and upon the kings who rule. Although King David is often held up as a paragon of virtue, the experiences of the women in his life frequently reveal a different side of his character, and the reader must wrestle with the resultant ambiguity. In the process, the reader must also think deeply about the inevitably negative aspects of hierarchical social structures and why this biblical text is apparently designed to press the reader toward unavoidable and uncomfortable personal confrontation with these realities concerning the use of power within community life.
