Without a doubt, Picasso is one of the most important and versatile artistic personalities of the twentieth century. But how does a body of work become so successful, and how does it wind up in major collections, museums, and exhibitions? Not infrequently, it is the courage of individuals who recognize genius in the works and advocate for them in the face of conservatism and criticism. In Picasso’s case, this role in Germany fell to the Bremen art dealer Michael Hertz. Unter Ausnutzung der hohen Rechen und Speicherkapazitat von Computem hoffte man seitdem, Modelle durchrechnen zu konnen, die dem Menschen uberlegene Prognose fahigkeiten bes en und durch deren Benutzung sich uberdurch schnittliche Gewinne an den Finanz- und Kapitalmarkten erzielen liegen. Hierdurch und durch kurzere Fassung im Allgemeinen, sowie besonders der pharmakognostischen Abschnitte, die auf das Mass des fur den Mediciner Brauchbaren beschrankt wurden, ist es moeglich ge- wesen, den Umfang des Werkes auf nahezu die Halfte zu be- schranken. Es konnte dies geschehen ungeachtet des enormen Zuwachses von modernen Mitteln, die zu einem grossen Theile durch die neuesten Pharmakopoeen als werthvoll anerkannt wurden und daher selbstverstandlich, obschon diese neuen Errungenschaften der Therapie zum grossen Theile nach kurzem Glanze wieder voellig obsolet werden, Besprechung finden mussten. Es ist auch trotz der Verringerung des Umfanges moeglich gewesen, das Buch fur einen groesseren Leserkreis nutzbar zu machen.
