“They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him†(Mark 5:1–2).  In Jesus’ day, a great divide existed between the Jews and the Gentiles. The Jews considered themselves to be on one side—on God’s side—and the Gentiles to be on the other. But time and again in Scripture, we find Yeshua Jesus traveling to the “other side†to meet with broken, lost, and desperate souls who needed God’s grace. He crossed to other side when Peter, the disciple who promised to never forsake Him, did just that on the night that He was arrested. He literally crossed to the other side of the Sea of Galilee to find a man in the region of the Gerasenes, casting out a legion of demons from him and into a horde of pigs. Jesus went out of His way to meet with a woman from Samaria and told a parable of a Prodigal Son to demonstrate that no one is ever too far from God. Jesus then encouraged His faithful followers to take up the call to journey to the other side—as evidenced by Peter’s willingness to meet with a Gentile named Cornelius and even stay in his home. In this six-session video Bible study, bestselling author Kathie Lee Gifford explores the stories of these important figures in Scripture who were willing to take the gospel to “the other side†so that all might learn of God’s plan of salvation. Participants will discover that they are never too far gone or too far out of reach for God to find them, minister to them, and heal them. They will also be encouraged to follow the example of Yeshua Jesus and meet with those who are hurting . . . right where they are. Kathie Lee Gifford; As told to Joanne Moody
R312 Discovery Miles 3 120 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

God sees you in every situation in life. In the Bible, we read that Hagar gave God the name El Roi, “the God who sees,†when she recognized that the Lord had seen her in her plight. In our lives, we often wonder if God sees us when trials feel endless, or problems resurface, or once-defeated illnesses return again to impact us. These moments make us question if God sees us and if he truly cares. In this six-session video Bible study, Kathie Lee Gifford and Joanne Moody delve into the lives of five people in the Bible who, like us, wondered if God saw them in their distress. Through the stories of Hagar, Ruth, Boaz, David, and Mary of Magdala, you will discover that even in the darkest times, God constantly watches over you. He has promised to never abandon you, and he empowers you to fulfill the purpose that he has for your life. Each session includes clips from The Way oratorios, featuring Kathie Lee Gifford and other well-known personalities, that bring the story of Scripture to life with contemporary orchestral arrangements, powerful narration, and stunning visuals. This study guide includes: Individual access to six streaming video sessions A guide to best practices for leading a group Video notes and a comprehensive structure for group discussion time Personal study for deeper reflection between sessions Sessions and video run times: The Desert (24:00) Hagar (22:00) Ruth (22:00) Boaz (22:00) David (21:30) Mary of Magdala (22:00) This study guide has everything you need for a full Bible study experience, including: The study guide itself—with discussion and reflection questions, video notes, and a leader's guide.

Are we looking mostly to please God or ourselves? The myth of Narcissus describes a young man who dies because he falls in love with his own reflection. When surrounded by the Narcissistic messages of contemporary society you ve got to believe in yourself we need to listen to a Bible teacher from a past age who can drag us back to reflecting less on ourselves and more on God. Jonathan Edwards, perhaps the greatest of all American Bible teachers, was so God-centered. In The God-Centered Life, Dr. Josh Moody calls us to listen to Edwards in order that we might stop living for ourselves and start living the God-centered life. How to do church, teach the Bible, have a healthy family, deal with failure, engage postmodernism, assess spiritual experiences and more are envisioned through the eyes of Jonathan Edwards with freshness and accessibility. It is for its fynbos – fine-leaved, shrub-like vegetation – that the southwestern and southern Cape has been named one of the world’s six plant kingdoms: The Cape floral kingdom. At less than 90 000 square kilometres, it is the smallest floral kingdom on earth. Yet it is home to 8 600 plant species, some 5 000 of which occur nowhere else in the world. Fynbos is a mixture of four plant types: Protea shrubs, heath-like ericas, reed-like restios and different bubous plants. The Cape floral kingdom contains 69 of the world’s 112 proteas, 526 of its 740 ericas and, among bubous plants, 96 of the world’s 160 gladiolus species. Table Mountain alone boasts almost 1 500 fynbos species. With Fynbos fairies, Antjie Krog and Fiona Moodie, both of whom regularly walk on the slopes of Table Mountain, pay homage to one of the natural wonders of the world. Inspired by Cicely Mary Barker’s A world of flower fairies, Antjie began the process by writing poems that each featured a plant and at least one imaginary little being. Fiona meticulously researched the features of each plant, insect and little animal depicted in these pages. The fairies and other imaginary beings in these pages are her own creations, but the flowers and creatures she copied from nature.

Navigating Friendships in Interaction - Discursive and Ethnographic Perspectives: Cade Conlan Bushnell, Stephen J. Moody Navigating Friendships in Interaction - Discursive and Ethnographic Perspectives
Cade Conlan Bushnell, Stephen J. Moody
R4,135 Discovery Miles 41 350 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Bushnell and Moody present a rich investigation into the navigation of friendships, adopting discursive and ethnographic perspectives to examine Japanese, Chinese and English interactional data. Since the definition of friendship is hard to pin down, most socio-cultural anthropologists have tended to focus on issues of kinship and descent, while leaving friendship as a residual or interstitial issue. However, this book puts friendship as the central focus and offers unique perspectives from the participants themselves. The interactional work implicated in the accomplishment of making and being friends, and the trials and tribulations of friendship are both explored, through the many detailed analyses showing how the participants navigate the calm and rough waters of friendship in and through their everyday interactions. Researchers, undergraduates, and postgraduate students in the fields of conversation analysis, pragmatics, and other social sciences will benefit from the real-life examples in the book, as well as the analysis.

Disability Matters - Pedagogy, media and affect (Paperback): Anna Hickey-moody, Vicki Crowley Disability Matters - Pedagogy, media and affect (Paperback)
Anna Hickey-moody, Vicki Crowley
R1,644 Discovery Miles 16 440 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

From the critique of the medical model of disability undertaken during the early and mid-1990s, a social model emerged, particularly in the caring professions and those trying to shape policy and practice for people with disability. In education and schooling, it was a period of cementing inclusive practices and the integration and inclusion of disability into mainstream . What was lacking in the debates around the social model, however, were the challenges to abledness that were being grappled with in the routine and pragmatics of self-care by people with disabilities, their families, carers and caseworkers. Outside the academy, new forms of activity and new questions were circulating. Challenges to abledness flourished in the arts and constituted the lived experience of many disability activists.

Disability Matters engages with the cultural politics of the body, exploring this fascinating and dynamic topic through the arts, teaching, research and varied encounters with disability ranging from the very personal to the professional. Chapters in this collection are drawn from scholars responding in various registers and contexts to questions of disability, pedagogy, affect, sensation and education. Questions of embodiment, affect and disability are woven throughout these contributions, and the diverse ways in which these concepts appear emphasize both the utility of these ideas and the timeliness of their application.

  • Explains the cultural significance of the kinds of learning that occur in and through arts
  • Advances a theory of aesthetic citizenship created by youth arts
  • Demonstrates ways in which arts practices are forms popular and public pedagogy
  • Critiques popular ideas that art can be used to fix problems in the lives of youth at risk

Youth, Arts and Education is the first post-critical theory of arts education. It will be of interest to students and scholars across the social sciences and humanities, in particular in the sociology of education, arts education, youth studies, sociology of the arts and cultural studies."

In facing the question who runs the universities, the authors have carried out over a period of years an extensive programme of interviews, both formal and informal, as well as a detailed study of documents. Their findings are written up in the language of politics in terms of power, authority, influence, regulation and decision making. The result is thus of value both to those with a practical interest in universities and to those with a more theoretical interest in politics or organisational behaviour.
