Scion of industry Vestige of colonialism Cursed socialite Tragic
heiress Just who was Veronica Hawkins? When Martina Torres arrives
in the glamorous and vibrant metropolis of Hong Kong, newly married
to her high school sweetheart, the world seems to be her oyster.
But looks can be deceiving. Adrift in a foreign city, with no job
and no friends, Martina chafes in her new role as Expat Wife. But
her luck changes when she meets Veronica Hawkins. Beautiful,
sophisticated, and very, very rich, Veronica is the epitome of Old
Hong Kong--the last surviving member of a British mercantile
dynasty that built the city during its colonial heyday. Martina can
hardly believe her fortune when she's taken under Veronica's wing
and into her confidence, with Veronica helping her to find a new
apartment, a new career, and most importantly, a new self. Veronica
transforms Martina's life and then, shockingly, she dies. She
disappears over the side of a yacht during a party attended by Hong
Kong's most influential people -- yet somehow there are no
witnesses. Was it murder? Suicide? A terrible accident? What really
happened to Veronica Hawkins? Somebody knows but nobody's telling.
You've Reached Sam meets The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue in this
heart-breaking, life-affirming love story about two outcasts
learning how to live - even after death. Mal Caldera - famous
musician, retired wild-child and excommunicated black sheep of her
Catholic family - is dead. Not that she cares. She only feels bad
that her younger sister, Cris, has been left with the wrong
impression of Mal's - definitely accidental - death. Ignoring the
warnings of the mysterious leader of the local ghosts, Alastair,
who is determined to recruit Mal and her musical talents to his
chorus of the undead, Mal sets out to make contact with Cris from
beyond the grave. Mal manages to track down Ren, a psychic who
doesn’t believe in psychics. Together, they concoct a plan to
pass on a message to Cris. But the more time they spend together,
the more both begin to wonder what might have been if they'd met
before Mal died. Mal soon learns there's a very good reason
Alastair and the other spirits choose to dance and debauch their
nights away instead of staying close to their families. And,
selfish though she's always been, Mal can't help but worry
that their budding relationship has made Ren a little too
comfortable hanging out with the dead. If either of them are going
to make the most of the rest of their time on earth, both Mal and
Ren must learn to really live as they never have before.

Feature drama starring Minnie Driver as a schoolteacher intent on
staging a rock opera version of 'The Tempest'. It is the summer of
1976, and Viv May (Driver) is an enthusiastic young drama teacher
at a Swansea secondary school. With her diaphanous dresses and
progressive attitudes, former actress Viv has her enemies amongst
the school's more conservative staff, and has set her sights on
creating a high-octane fusion of Shakespeare and David Bowie for
this year's school performance. Between rehearsals her adolescent
students pass the hot summer days lounging around the lido,
fighting and falling in love, as their future beyond the safe
confines of school life looms ahead of them.
This enlightening book comprehensively maps the current state of
economic psychology and behavioural economics. Exploring key
concepts, topics and models in the field, it is also a launching
pad for future research, providing useful insights on how to make
good personal and professional decisions, advancing microeconomic
discourse. The book lays out how economic decisions are made by
answering key questions in the bordering field between economics
and psychology. Close to the ecological rationality research
program, it presents the main factors that determine economic
choices, before exploring the most common algorithms used to
concretize economic decisions and the main strategies for altering
preferences. Chapters focus on the general issues surrounding
economic choices, such as preferences, beliefs and emotions, and on
the heuristic algorithms applied by people in decision-making
processes, among which there are outstanding social concerns.
Drawing these elements together, the author presents a seminal
model combining preferences and heuristics to explain choices in
the consumption of goods and services. This book will be an
invaluable resource for academic and professional economists
seeking to deepen their understanding of the psychological
dimension of economic decisions. It will also be a useful guide for
students of economics, management and the wider social sciences
curious about decision-making procedures.

Contingent Workers' Voice in Southern Europe investigates the
manifold challenges posed by the continued expansion of the
platform economy, the rise of non-standard forms of employment, and
the diversification of work identities. Leading authors explore the
potentialities and barriers for collective protection and
representation of contingent workers in the platform economy, based
on the experiences, needs, and aspirations of workers in Italy and
Spain. Chapters undertake in-depth analyses of a diverse and
innovative variety of initiatives for the protection, organization,
and representation of contingent workers. The book ultimately
constructs a framework to interpret the evolution of contingent
workers' experiences, allowing trade unions, social movements, and
cooperatives to develop organizational and representative practices
that better respond to their needs. This incisive book will be of
interest to researchers and advanced students of sociology,
international relations, political science, and labour law. Its
practical insights will also enable trade unionists, activists, and
policymakers in the field of labour relations to make informed
decisions and identify possible avenues for development.

other quirky and eccentric characters including his stoner
neighbour Tommy Balls (Johnny Knoxville) and the permanently bitter
Mr. Allspice (James Caan). In a heated argument over rent, Franklin
accidentally kills his landlord Mr Olivetti (Peter Stormare) and
while staging the death as a suicide unwittingly causes a fire.
When he hears that his brother has died from a brain tumour and

Franklin sees an opportunity to make his escape, but before he can
do so, he'll have to avoid detection by the fire investigation team
led by Burt Walnut (Billy Crystal).
This thought-provoking book examines the state of the European
Monetary Union (EMU) and its shortcomings in terms of social rights
protection in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the
aftermath of the Euro crisis. Providing a critical analysis of the
basic tenets of European economic governance, it highlights current
challenges for a Social Europe and proposes new avenues for
tackling these issues. Focusing on the existing mechanisms of
social rights protection in the EU, chapters explore the imbalance
between economic and social goals within the EMU, discussing how to
strengthen the building blocks of Social Europe in order to address
this. The book also investigates the challenges for the
adjudication of social rights before European and domestic courts,
and considers alternative models of judicial review that offer
better protection in the context of crisis. Scholars and students
of EU law, constitutional law, and public international law will
find this book a crucial read, in particular those with an interest
in law and economics. It will also be useful for EU law
practitioners working in social rights.

Biographical account of a vulnerable young school girl in the post
war years who was indoctrinated and subtly led astray from the
faith she was born into to a strange one which she was made to
believe was not unlike her own. As the years went by she became
spiritually and emotionally estranged from her family and friends
turning to the ones she acquired from a new circle. Then in her
teens she was expelled from her country of birth and as a refugee
had to adapt to a new country, culture and language leaving them
all behind. She began to experience identity crises and struggled
spiritually to cling on to her new faith. Then marriage took her to
yet again another country where as a wife and mother she struggled
to identify her mother tongue. Over the years she felt increasingly
isolated from her adopted faith and had to do a lot of heart
searching till eventually both intellectually and spiritually she
began to reconnect with the faith she was born into thus
reacquainting with her real self, releasing her from the spiritual
confusion and muddled theology she had been experiencing for over
thirty years. In this account there is also social history related
to her journey over the years.
