The Internet has brought about unprecedented changes to modern
life, creating a connected society but also radically opening up
the question of how to design and apply legal rules in a digital
world. This thoroughly revised second edition provides an updated
exploration of the latest developments and controversies in
European Internet law. Paying close attention to recent acts and
proposals, including the Digital Services Act (DSA), Digital
Markets Act (DMA), AI Act and others, this Research Handbook traces
the developments of main regulatory ideas; provides criticism of
the methods, principles, approaches and enforcement; and gives a
critical analysis of the normative side of regulation. The expert
contributors are clustered around the main regulatory fields and
each deals adeptly with one or more of the key features of the
passed or proposed acts. Providing a critical analysis of the
EU’s regulatory efforts in digital regulation, this discerning
Research Handbook will be a useful reference tool for academics and
postgraduate students specialising in international law,
e-commerce, consumer law and IT law. It will also be of interest to
practitioners, including governmental officials and data protection
officers.
This extensively revised and updated third edition of EU Internet
Law offers a state of the art overview of the key areas of EU
Internet regulation, as well as a critical evaluation of EU
policy-making and governance in the field. It provides an in-depth
analysis of the ways in which relevant legal instruments interact,
as well as comparative discussions contrasting EU and US solutions.
Examining the constitutional context within which the Internet is
regulated, and the policies that have informed this regulation over
the years, Andrej Savin explores recent policy documents on illegal
and harmful content online, communications on platforms and the
2020 Digital Single Market strategy, as well as further
developments in the case law of the Court of Justice of the
European Union. He also investigates key issues such as electronic
commerce, jurisdiction, content regulation, intellectual property,
consumer protection, criminal regulation, and recent developments
in GDPR. This third edition of EU Internet Law will be a crucial
read for academics, students, and practitioners working at the
intersections of the Internet, technology, and commercial, economic
and information law across the EU and beyond.

EU Telecommunications Law provides a comprehensive overview of the
current European regulatory framework as it applies to
telecommunications and examines the challenges facing regulators in
this sector. Key chapters focus on the selection of appropriate
regulatory models that serve to encourage effective investment in
next-generation networks and ensure their successful deployment.
Andrej Savin provides an up to date overview of all the relevant
sources, guiding the reader through these disparate materials in a
simple and systematized way. In particular, the book provides
analysis of the 2016 proposal for a European Electronic
Communications Code (EECC). Using the 2009 Regulatory Framework on
electronic communications as a basis the author analyses each of
the 2009 framework?s five main directives, comparing them with the
changes proposed in the EECC. Providing a comprehensive
introduction to the main areas of EU telecoms regulation, this book
will be of great value to telecoms and IT lawyers. It will also
appeal to academics carrying out research in IT law or competition
law as it relates to IT and telecoms.

This book explores approaches to developing and using postdigital
humans and the impact they are having on a postdigital world. It
presents current research and practices at a time when education is
changing rapidly with digital, technological advances. In
particular, it outlines the major challenges faced by today's
employers, developers, teachers, researchers, priests and
philosophers. The book examines conceptions of postdigital humans
and studies the issue in connection with ethics and employment, as
well as from perspectives such as philosophy and religion.
What is research in education? And what is it for in a digital age?
Reflecting upon these questions, this engaging introduction
provides critical discussion about the dilemmas of researching
education in the digital age and ways forward for research in this
complex area. Research Methods for Education in the Digital Age
begins by outlining forms of education that are seen as digital,
such as virtual, blended, immersive learning and examining the
extent to which these are different or just adapted versions of
earlier methods and approaches to education. Maggi Savin-Baden and
Gemma Tombs explore current practices in research, identifying the
successful adoption and adaption of theories and present practical
guidance on new and emerging methodologies, methods, and analytical
practices for undertaking educational research. New methodologies
discussed include digital arts-based inquiry and digital visual
methodologies, as well as adaptations of widely used methodologies
such as ethnography, for the specific needs of researching digital
teaching and learning. The book outlines the major challenges faced
by today's digital researchers, exploring approaches to digital
ethics, the relationship between qualitative and quantitative data
in the digital age, digital data representations and portrayal and
suggests helpful ways of dealing with the complexities and ethical
challenges of undertaking research in and for digital spaces. Using
case studies, research tips, a glossary and annotated further
reading, the authors take a step by step approach from
conceptualizing the research ideas, selecting the appropriate
method to the dissemination of the findings. At a time when
education is changing rapidly with digital and technological
advances, Research Methods for Education in the Digital Age is
essential reading for researchers wanting to undertake sound and
rigorous research in the digital domain.
Synergetics is the quantitative study of multicomponent systems
that exhibit nonlinear dynamics and cooperativity. This book
specifically considers basic models of the nonlinear dynamics of
molecular systems and discusses relevant applications in biological
physics and the polymer sciences.
Emphasis is placed on specific solutions to the dynamical equations
that correspond to the coherent formation of spatial-temporal
structures, such as solitons, kinks and breathers, in particular.
The emergence of these patterns in molecular structures provides a
variety of information on their structural properties and plays a
significant part in energy transfer processes, topological defects,
dislocations, and related structure transitions.
Real media, in which solitons take the form of solitary waves, are
also considered. In this context, the formation of nonlinear waves
in a continuous medium described by nonlinear equations is
associated with spontaneous breaking of the local symmetry of the
homogeneous system, which produces a range of interesting
phenomena.
A particular feature of this text is its combination of analytic
and computational strategies to tackle difficult nonlinear problems
at the molecular level of matter.
As a child growing up in Cambodia, Ronnie Yimsut played among the
ruins of the Angkor Wat temples, surrounded by a close-knit
community. As the Khmer Rouge gained power and began its genocidal
reign of terror, his life became a nightmare. Teenaged Ronnie was
left orphaned, literally buried under the bodies of his family and
friends. In this stunning memoir, Yimsut describes how, in the wake
of death and destruction, he decides to live. Escaping the turmoil
of Cambodia, he makes a perilous journey through the jungle into
Thailand, only to be sent to a notorious Thai prison. Fortunately,
he is able to reach a refugee camp and ultimately migrate to the
United States, another frightening journey to the unknown. Yet he
prevailed, attending the University of Oregon and becoming an
influential leader in the community of Cambodian immigrants. Facing
the Khmer Rouge shows Ronnie Yimsut's personal quest to
rehabilitate himself, make a new life in America, and then return
to Cambodia to help rebuild the land of his birth.
I Remember Chesterfield is a vividly recalled memoir about a way of
life that no longer exists. From the 1890's until the 1920's, a
small enclave of 50 immigrant Russian Jewish families purchased
worn-out Yankee farmland in Chesterfield, Connecticut with
assistance from the Baron Maurice de Hirsch Fund. Supplementing
their poor livelihoods as farmers, they enterprisingly became small
traders, dairymen, pants stitchers, and summer boarding house
owners. If they recreated a little European stetl (italics) in turn
of the century rural America, they were also fiercely determined to
acculturate, and in 1892 incorporated as the New England Hebrew
Farmers Association. passionately and lovingly chronicles life in
Chesterfield. She recalls the halcyon days at her grandparents'
farm where she picked sun kissed blueberries, bathed in Kosofsky's
clear, cool brook, visited her Grandfather's general store, and
attended the little Chesterfield synagogue that unified the
community through its traditional customs, and rituals. Although it
remained a formative influence throughout her life, the
Chesterfield Savin once knew knew and loved has long disappeared.
In this wonderful book, but it lives again, timeless and
compelling.
