An Art History graduate student stumbles upon the love of her life
and a long-lost manuscript at a medieval monastery outside Orvieto
in Umbria. The manuscript records the memories of a monk, Brother
Matteo, who in 1263-as a thirteen-year-old foundling, with his
Master, his Lady, and his "brother," the gentle giant
Giorgio-became part of an unofficial investigation into the newly
reported miracle in the ancient town of Bolsena. According to the
report, when Father Peter of Bohemia said the words of consecration
("This is My Body") at a pilgrims' Mass, the communion host bled
Christ's Blood onto the altar cloth. In the course of their
investigation, Matteo and his family are drawn into the political
turmoil of the times, and Matteo learns that this world is, after
all, a vale of tears-but also a place of miracles. The Art History
graduate student, who has translated and edited Brother Matteo's "A
True History of the Miracle of Bolsena," invites her readers to go
to present-day Orvieto to see the relics of the Miracle and the
priceless works of art that commemorate it-and, wherever they are,
to remain open to life's true miracles.
With contributions from nearly 130 internationally renowned experts
in the field, this reference details advances in transgenic plant
construction and explores the social, political, and legal aspects
of genetic plant manipulation. It provides analyzes of the history,
genetics, physiology, and cultivation of over 30 species of
transgenic seeds, fruits, and vegetables. Stressing the impact of
genetic engineering strategies on the nutritional and functional
benefit of foods as well as on consumer health and the global
market economy, the book covers methods of gene marking,
transferring, and tagging public perceptions to the selective
breeding, hybridization, and recombinant DNA manipulation of food.
This volume assembles the papers, presentations, and speeches from
the 50th Anniversary Meeting of the International Association of
University Presidents (IAUP) held in Oxfordshire in 2015. This book
is a companion volume to the proceedings of the 1965 inaugural
meeting of IAUP, also published by Fairleigh Dickinson University
Press. The highlight of the 50th Anniversary Meeting was an
academic conference at Oxford University on the theme of "Higher
Education in 2065." Participants were called upon to look ahead to
the next fifty years of global higher education, drawing from their
academic fields, as well as their leadership experience within and
beyond higher education. The resulting collection includes
discussions of current trends that will impact the future of
universities, as well as discussions of specific challenges likely
to face higher education institutions, both generally and in
particular regions. Some contributors outline steps that higher
education institutions and/or policymakers should adopt today to
prepare for those challenges, while others imagine the university
of the future. Edited by IAUP secretary-general emeritus Jason
Scorza, this book is dedicated to the memory of J. Michael Adams,
who served both as president of Fairleigh Dickinson University and
president of IAUP, and includes some of his final writings on the
topic of the future of global higher education. Founded in 1965,
IAUP is the world's largest association of university chief
executives from higher education institutions. Membership is
limited to individuals who serve or have served as presidents,
rectors, or vice-chancellors at accredited colleges or
universities.

Giorgio Vasari's The Lives of the Most Famous Painters, Sculptors
and Architects (1550 and 1568) is a classic of cultural history. A
monumental assembly of artists' lives from Giotto to Michelangelo,
it paints a vivid picture of the progress of art in the hands of
individual masters. This illustrated standalone edition of Vasari's
Life of Raphael offers a new translation of this rich and
remarkable 'Life', elegantly rendering Vasari's literary text in
modern terms. A work of authoritative skill and precision, the
translation preserves Vasari's compelling narrative, while
beautifully reproduced illustrations bring it newly to life.
Editors Paul Joannides and Rick Scorza bring together the original
and expanded Italian editions of 1550 and 1568, with succinct
commentary drawing upon their expert knowledge of Raphael's career.

Was treibt den Klimawandel voran?
Zukunftsblick
What is driving climate change? What impact does it have on the
Earth's ecosystems, our environment, and us? What can I do? This
book explains in a clear and understandable way the
interrelationships, influencing factors and effects of the greatest
challenge facing mankind: climate change. The team of authors
presents over 100 aspects in clear language, each on a double-page
spread. With impressive sketchnotes, professor and sketchnoter
Katharina Theis-Bröhl illustrates and explains the sometimes
simple, sometimes complicated issues always understandable.
Because: Sketchnotes are not only beautiful to look
at – they are also an effective mnemonic, a
structural tool and an aid to crystallize the essentials.
Comprehensible accompanying texts by Cecilia Scorza and Harald
Lesch round off each topic in an informative way. With this book,
you can understand the causes of climate change, discover the
physical connections, and recognize both local and global impacts.
You will learn about the role our location in the solar system
plays, the feedback processes involved in global warming, and what
it means when the oceans acidify. And ultimately, the question will
be asked: How much time do we have left to act? Â From the
contents: How special is the Earth? – Understanding
the greenhouse effect – The Earth's climate
system – The climate change – Effects
of climate change – What can I do? – A
