A double bill of alien chasing. In 'MIB', after chasing a fugitive
with an advanced alien weapon, New York cop James Edwards (Will
Smith) finds himself recruited to the MiB, a top secret agency in
charge of alien immigration on Earth. He is partnered with K (Tommy
Lee Jones), and sent to investigate an alien prediction of the end
of the world. They have to track down a hostile alien life form
currently wearing the human skin of a country hick named Edgar.
Whilst in 'MIIB' it is some four years later and K (Lee Jones) has
returned to a civilian life, working as a postman and quite unaware
of his former heroics alongside Agent J (Smith). But when J
uncovers a secret alien plot organised by the seemingly seductive
Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle) he has to call on K again.
Unfortunately K has no memory of his former role as
'Saver-of-the-World', but somewhere in his head is the expertise
that can save the Earth, if only J can get him onside in time.

This book brings together 10 experiments which introduce historical
perspectives into mathematics classrooms for 11 to 18-year-olds.
The authors suggest that students should not only read ancient
texts, but also should construct, draw and manipulate. The
different chapters refer to ancient Greek, Indian, Chinese and
Arabic mathematics as well as to contemporary mathematics. Students
are introduced to well-known mathematicians-such as Gottfried
Leibniz and Leonard Euler-as well as to less famous practitioners
and engineers. Always, there is the attempt to associate the
experiments with their scientific and cultural contexts. One of the
main values of history is to show that the notions and concepts we
teach were invented to solve problems. The different chapters of
this collection all have, as their starting points, historic
problems-mathematical or not. These are problems of exchanging and
sharing, of dividing figures and volumes as well as engineers'
problems, calculations, equations and congruence. The mathematical
reasoning which accompanies these actions is illustrated by the use
of drawings, folding, graphical constructions and the production of
machines.
This book traces the life of Cholesky (1875-1918), and gives his
family history. After an introduction to topography, an English
translation of an unpublished paper by him where he explained his
method for linear systems is given, studied and replaced in its
historical context. His other works, including two books, are also
described as well as his involvement in teaching at a superior
school by correspondence. The story of this school and its founder,
Leon Eyrolles, are addressed. Then, an important unpublished book
of Cholesky on graphical calculation is analyzed in detail and
compared to similar contemporary publications. The biography of
Ernest Benoit, who wrote the first paper where Choleskys method is
explained, is provided. Various documents, highlighting the life
and the personality of Cholesky, end the book."

This innovative new textbook covers a range of clinical situations
a nurse may encounter in their professional career, providing
useful insights into challenging patient - and colleague -
encounters. Written by a team of educators and clinicians with
considerable expertise in their respective fields, the book focuses
on the application of psychology in key areas of nursing (child,
adult, older people, learning disabilities, mental health)
providing practical approaches and techniques that nurses can use
in their daily practice with patients. It includes several features
to support teaching and learning: * Clearly defined learning
outcomes for each chapter * Examples throughout to illustrate the
application of psychology * Case studies following a student nurse
through different placements and experiences during her nurse
training * Structured activities and questions for discussion to
encourage reflection on practice * Annotated suggestions for
further reading With nurses increasingly being held to public and
professional account, the importance of understanding a clinical
encounter, in particular the psychological aspects of it together
with developing a skillset to respond to patients, has never been
greater. This accessible and entertaining book will be
indispensable reading for nurses at undergraduate and graduate
level, particularly those on the pre-registration nursing diploma
and Bsc (Hons) in Nursing.
This book presents a comprehensive analysis of the relations
between US philanthropic foundations (in particular the Rockefeller
Foundation and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace) and
the League of Nations. Generations of students and scholars have
learned that the US, having played a key role in the creation of
the League of Nations in 1919, did not join the organization and
stood aloof from its activities during the whole interwar period.
This book questions this idea and argues that, even though the US
was not a de jure member of the League of Nations, the financial,
human, and intellectual investment of foundations brought about the
de facto integration of the US within the League system and also
modified the latter's architecture. The book describes the
Americanization of the League and shows how it resulted from three
strategies pursued throughout the interwar period: that of US
foundations, that of the Secretariat, and that of the US federal
government. The book also shows the limits of this Americanization
and analyzes the role of the European experts in the coproduction
of the postwar international order together with the US government.
This book will be of interest to historians and political
scientists, as well as undergraduate and graduate students in
interdisciplinary programs of international relations.
