Education as a process would be looked at from two points of view viz one from that of society and the other from that of individual Society seeks to perpetuate itself by passing on its cultural acquisitions to each succeeding generation. Hence the objective of education is to bring out the growth of the individual in the given social context. During the pre-British period, the Untouchable castes were excluded from education and the Tribal groups remained devoid of education as they lived in isolated and away from others. However, the education introduced by the British was open to all; also with higher caste children a few children of the untouchable castes and Tribal groups could also get education. But, as education remained Indian society after independence has committed itself to its all-round development it has started taking measures for its social and education development also along with its political and economic development. It is striving to eradicate whatever inequalities exist between different social groups in India. Some social groups have remained backward for centuries and the Scheduled Castes arid the Scheduled Tribes are the most backward among them.

The rural sector in India plays a predominant role in the development of the economy. Women in India still perform only their traditional roles in their houses and in agriculture. They do not engage in any of the economic activities without assistance from their men folk due to socio-cultural, traditional practices, conventions and taboos. The development of women entrepreneurship is very low in rural India, though the urban women are slightly enjoying better status in the society. Women's skill and knowledge, their talent and abilities in business and a compelling desire of wanting to do something positive are some of the reasons for the Self Help Group formation and its development. Self Help Groups SHGs are of recent origin in India. Self Help Groups are small, economically homogeneous and affinity groups of rural and urban poor women, voluntarily formed for working together for the social and economic uplift of their families and community. The Government of India and various State Governments have been implementing various programmes for rural upliftment.

Poor efficiency in the marketing channels and inadequate marketing infrastructure are believed to be the cause of not only high and fluctuating consumer prices, but also too little of the consumer rupee reaching the farmer. Indian farmers typically depend heavily on middlemen particularly in vegetable marketing. India is land of agriculture diversity. With 2/3 of population still dependent on agriculture and contributing about 20 per cent to Indian GDP, the condition of Indian farmers is still miserable. The main reason for this can be accounted due to poor price realization by the farmers in consumer rupee. This ranges from 35-65 paise per rupee. This low realization can be attributed to large number of intermediaries present in the chain between producers farmer and ultimate consumer, hence to counter this problem what is needed is a development of a proper supply chain so that farmers, intermediary and consumer get their objectives fulfilled, that is farmer get proper price realization in consumer rupee, intermediaries get their required margins and consumer get good service and product at affordable price.

Palar River is the source of drinking water for 30 towns and 50 villages on its banks and also used for the cultivation purpose. The tanneries present on the banks allowed effluents in the Palar River, which has become more polluted recently and no longer useful for drinking or agricultural purposes. Due to pollution, peoples around the river are suffering from a number of diseases such as asthma, skin disease and stomach ailment and thousands acres of fertile land have become wasteland and no more used for cultivation (Vellore environmental profile). Palar River was reported as one of the most polluted places of world by Blacksmith Institute in 2006, which are heavily contaminated with salts and heavy metals especially Chromium. Metals contamination is one of the major environmental problems in many countries and these contaminants generally come from various industries like leather, agricultural, textile industries etc. The most commonly occurring metals at these sites are lead, chromium, arsenic, zinc, cadmium, copper, and mercury. Presence of these metals in groundwater and soils may cause a significant threat to human health and ecological systems.
