Fracture mechanics of concrete: Structural application and numerical calculation - Structural Application and Numerical... Fracture mechanics of concrete: Structural application and numerical calculation - Structural Application and Numerical Calculation (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1985)
George C Sih, A. Ditomasso
R5,762 Discovery Miles 57 620 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Concrete has traditionally been known as a material used widely in the construction of roads, bridges and buildings. Since cost effectiveness has always been one of the more important aspects of design, concrete, when reinforced and/or prestressed, is finding more use in other areas of application such as floating marine structures, storage tanks, nuclear vessel containments and a host of other structures. Because of the demand for concrete to operate under different loading and environmen tal conditions, increasing attention has been paid to study concrete specimens and structure behavior. A subject of major concern is how the localized segregation of the constituents in concrete would affect its global behavior. The degree of nonhomogeneity due to material property and damage. by yielding and/or cracking depends on the size scale and loading rate under consideration. Segregation or clustering of aggregates at the macroscopic level will affect specimen behavior to a larger degree than it would to a large structure such as a dam. Hence, a knowledge of concrete behavior over a wide range of scale is desired. The parameters governing micro-and macro-cracking and the techniques for evaluating and observing the damage in concrete need to be better understood. This volume is intended to be an attempt in this direction. The application of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics to concrete is discussed in several of the chapters.

Comparative Treatments for Anxiety Disorders (Hardcover): Robert A. DiTomasso, Elizabeth A. Gosch Comparative Treatments for Anxiety Disorders (Hardcover)
Robert A. DiTomasso, Elizabeth A. Gosch
R3,299 Discovery Miles 32 990 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Anxiety disorders are costly, common, and debilitating. They often present challenging problems in the caseloads of practicing clinicians today. This volume compares and contrasts various models of and treatment approaches to anxiety disorders. Each contributor, a master clinician, analyzes the same case and presents a thorough description of the model. Detailed descriptions of therapists' skills and attributes, assessment plans, treatment goals, intervention strategies, common pitfalls and mechanisms of change are included.

Among the 11 therapies presented are Cognitive-Behavioral, Problem-Solving, Acceptance and Commitment, Contextual Family Therapy, Supportive-Expressive, Psychodynamic, and Psychopharmacological.

The volume concludes with a useful table that succinctly summarizes the tenets of all these major approaches.

For practitioners, graduate students, and professionals preparing for licensure.

Specialty Competencies in Clinical Psychology (Paperback): Robert A. DiTomasso, Stacey C. Cahn, Susan M. Panichelli-Mindel,... Specialty Competencies in Clinical Psychology (Paperback)

The field of psychology is witnessing a burgeoning competence movement and leading organizations have initiated major and sustained efforts to define and evaluate specific competencies in clinical psychology.
In Specialty Competencies in Clinical Psychology, DiTomasso, Cahn, Panichelli-Mindel, and McFillin examine the need for competency-minded training in clinical psychology and provide a comprehensive overview of specific functional and foundational competencies in the specialty. Each chapter defines competence in specific functional domains such as assessment, case formulation, consultation, teaching, administration, management and supervision, scientific methods and research, and interventional competencies within four major theoretical models (interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapies). Finally, the authors emphasize distinct foundational competencies, such as the interpersonal relationship, ethical considerations, individual and cultural diversity, and professional identification.

Series in Specialty Competencies in Professional Psychology
Series Editors
Arthur M. Nezu and Christine Maguth Nezu
As the field of psychology continues to grow and new specialty areas emerge and achieve recognition, it has become increasingly important to define the standards of professional specialty practice.
Developed and conceived in response to this need for practical guidelines, this series presents methods, strategies, and techniques for conducting day-to-day practice in any given psychology specialty. The topical volumes address best practices across the functional and foundational competencies that characterize the various psychology specialties, including clinical psychology, cognitive and behavioral psychology, school psychology, geropsychology, forensic psychology, clinical neuropsychology, couples and family psychology, and more. Functional competencies include common practice activities like assessment and intervention, while foundational competencies represent core knowledge areas such as ethical and legal issues, cultural diversity, and professional identification. In addition to describing these competencies, each volume provides a definition, description, and development timeline of a particular specialty, including its essential and characteristic pattern of activities, as well as its distinctive and unique features.
Written by recognized experts in their respective fields, volumes are comprehensive, up-to-date, and accessible. These volumes offer invaluable guidance to not only practicing mental health professionals, but those training for specialty practice as well.
