Geostatistics Rio 2000 includes fifteen contributions, five of which are on applications in petroleum science and ten are on mining geostatistics. These contributions were presented at the 31st International Geological Congress, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 6-17 August, 2000. Stochastic simulation was the key theme of these case studies. A wide range of methods was used: truncated gaussian and plurigaussian, SIS and SGS, boolean methods and multi-point attractors.

The five contributions on petroleum science focus on different aspects of reservoir characterisation. All use stochastic simulations to generate 3D numerical models that reproduce the key features of reservoirs.

Five of the ten contributions on mining present ore-body simulations; the others address questions like reconciling reserve estimates with production figures.
None of these contributions present new theory. Instead they show readers how to incorporate geology into geostatistical case studies in a meaningful way.

La roya asiatica de la soja, P. pachyrhizi fue detectada en Argentina en marzo de 2002. Con la finalidad de minimizar el impacto economico sobre la produccion, se creo el Programa Nacional Roya de la Soja. El programa tuvo la colaboracion de laboratorios de diagnostico, distribuidos en las principales zonas de produccion de soja del pais, donde se oficializaron los diagnosticos positivos. La implementacion del mismo fue una oportunidad para que las instituciones publicas aunaran esfuerzos, llevando a cabo actividades en forma coordinada.En este trabajo se vuelca la informacion obtenida en la zona central de produccion de soja, y va dirigido a profesionales, asesores y docentes relacionados con la produccion agropecuaria. La investigacion se focalizo en la evaluacion de sintomatologia de las enfermedades de fin de ciclo y en el uso adecuado de agroquimicos comerciales. Para ello se evaluaron una serie de parametros asociados al rendimiento y a la calidad. La experiencia recabada en estos anos de ensayos, han demostrado que la mejor decision de manejo ante las enfermedades de fin de ciclo en soja, es la implementacion del monitoreo de los lotes, para tomar decisiones oportunas."
