Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made

This book is about a journey with the Center for Strategic
Alliances in Education for School and District Improvement with
stakeholders in a school targeted for school improvement. The first
chapter puts into context the notion of school, its purpose and the
incumbent variables of values, attitudes, organizational and
leadership behaviors and instructional practices. Throughout the
book, the authors look at three contextual boundaries: (1)
historical, (2) the lens of former students and their perceptions
of the presence or absence of those variables and (3) a comparison
of labeled schools and the views and perceptions of stakeholders
with regard to quality, equity and adequacy. This is a compelling
journey which utilizes quantitative and qualitative data to take a
critical look at the processes involved and the strategies used in
America's journey in the quest for excellence. The authors' story
is one of the pursuits of innovation, reinvention, equity,
excellence and culturally relevant education experiences that
inspire and reframe the discussion about "getting to excellence."
The book is replete with illustrations of weaknesses hidden in
abstract policies, institutional persistence, and culturally void
programs, methodologies and practices. It advocates a methodology
for arriving at well-conceived processes for achieving acceptance
and academic excellence through collaboration among those to whom
education is important - the children and the communities where
they live.
The media coverage of natural disasters (hurricanes, fires, floods,
ice storms, etc.) indicates the prevalence of natural disasters in
most, if not all, ecosystems. In order for scientists to study,
understand, and ultimately predict how these disturbances affect
ecosystems, it is necessary for them to know more about the
physical processes involved in these disturbances and to learn how
to couple these processes to the ecological systems. Essential for
all ecologists, forest researchers, and conservation biologists,
this book includes chapters on the disturbance processes, how the
disturbance causes necrosis or death to individuals, and their
effects on population or community processes. In this book,
physical scientists who study disturbances provide an introduction
to the physical disturbance processes, while ecologists relate this
information to the way the vegetation responds to the disturbances.
This reference is also key for all researchers hydrology,
geomorphology, and environmental management.
* Includes coverage on six different disturbance processes: Wind,
Gravity, Geomorphic, Hydrologic, Combustion, and Biotic
* Provides a clear explanation of how some of the physical
processes of disturbance affect plant ecological processes
* Offers ecologists an up-to-date understanding of the physical
processes and allows them to predict future affects of
disturbances
* Unites two related fields by linking the disturbance processes
and ecological responses
* Presents physical scientists with ideas of how they might
usefully apply their knowledge to advance understanding of
ecological systems
This book was born out of frustration - the frustration that comes
from desiring to reach into our lives through prayer and tough,
hard places that are far beyond our control. We know that prayer
works, but at the same time, we experience prayer that becomes
superficial and routine. Too often we ourselves say, Lord bless our
lives. It is my desire to go deeper to claim the victory and
promises that God has for us in his word, and to literally pray
these promises into our lives, children, and loved ones as well.
God has the ability to take the pure chaos of a life filled with
divorce, drug addictions, sexual misconduct, mental depression, and
every negative experience known to humans, and make a life filled
with unending peace and power. He alone has the power to change an
unchangeable thing into something that it could never have become
by itself. In Finish Me: A Beautiful Revelation of the "Finished"
You, Kevin A. Johnson shows that God has a finished plan for our
lives, although our imperfect circumstances seem to dictate
differently. Just as God took seven days to complete His creation
as shown in the Book of Genesis, God works faithfully in the lives
of Christian believers to bring them to the "finish" He desires for
them. Apostle Johnson demonstrates, through sound wisdom, that the
sum total of our lives is not in the way in which our lives might
have begun, but is fully discovered in the way in which our lives
are finished. He wants us to realize that dealing with the
experiences of poverty, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, depression, or
rape does not mean that our lives are over. Rather, he implores us
to believe that God has a far more perfect finish for us, even
though Satan has hit us with such darkened chaos. The author also
wishes for us to understand that God has millions of days of
continuous sunshine for every infrequent scary and dark moment of
our lives. Author Kevin A. Johnson, of Nashville, Tennessee, is a
popular speaker and is the author of other books on living a
Christian life of vision, purpose, and joy. He is a passionate
servant of his God and Savior, Jesus Christ. We must know that even
in the midst of our worst chaos, there exists an unseen
"supernatural blueprint" of what we are truly meant to become.
Kevin A. Johnson's Finish Me: A Beautiful Revelation of the
"Finished" You inspires us to believe in and completely accept this
truth.
In his sophomore release, Dust Collector, Kevin A. Johnson
continues in his mission to present the truth of God-designed
purpose and Holy Spirit power. Johnson ruthlessly reveals the
schemes of the enemy, never downplaying the power of dust, once
collected in our lives, to keep us frustrated, defeated, and
ineffective. He extols us to not live our present lives in the
shame of our past sins, but invites us instead to inhale the breath
of God's salvation and to receive His cleansing. By detailing a
number of principles that lead to godly, Spirit-filled living,
Johnson instructs us in ways to rise above life's ashes,
encouraging us to utilize the power of God's Spirit in the battle
against the enemy for our righteousness.
This volume examines the French Revolution's relationship with and
impact on religious communities and religion in a transnational
perspective. It challenges the traditional secular narrative of the
French Revolution, exploring religious experience and
representation during the Revolution, as well as the religious
legacies that spanned from the eighteenth century to the present.
Contributors explore the myriad ways that individuals, communities,
and nation-states reshaped religion in France, Europe, the Atlantic
Ocean, and around the world.
Nationally recognized scholars and practitioners examine
opportunities in which services traditionally provided by local
governments are offered by the private sector though a contract or
are transferred to a private business completely. Many large U.S.
cities have contracted services for many years. With the movement
to rightsize governments in recent years there has been renewed
interest by local governments in similar ventures. Privatization,
in its many forms, is now seen as a viable alternative to
traditional ways of providing public services and can bring
substantial benefits to residents. With greater accountability
being demanded and pressures on local officials to hold the line on
or reduce taxes, efforts to find innovative service delivery
methods will probably increase. Cities, such as Atlanta,
Indianapolis, and Charlotte, are examples showing that contracts
with private businesses can work to benefit all parties. Local
officials must move ahead cautiously, and not all attempts at
privatization or contracting have succeeded. Some cities, after an
evaluation, have decided to provide services with municipal
employees.
The main issues underlying privatization decisions will be
addressed conceptually so that practitioners and academics benefit
from a review of the current thinking on the issues. At the same
time, exemplary practices and case studies are included so that
readers can understand how privatization and managed competition
have been implemented in local governments. Special attention is
paid to administrative questions that may arise during the
implementation process. For example, ways in which cities have
worked with employees who fear displacement because of the
privatization process are described. The book breaks new ground by
including references to recent innovations in public-private
partnerships and describing how privatization may evolve in the
future.

wished for a trusted advisor to guide you? "Whole" is a
contemporary tale of two people who, on a bet, take a trip to the
country. Discovering an inn in the midst of an apple orchard, they
are sheltered from an unexpected storm by three unusual old people.
But a storm of a different sort follows them into the inn, where
they are confronted with their pasts and yet are blown away by
gifts of wisdom and unconditional love. What began as a pleasant
distraction from their frenzied lives, became a journey to
Wholeness by discovering the mother-within.
There is now a palpable sense of optimism about the role of cities
and transnational city-networks in global climate governance. Yet,
amidst the euphoria, there is also a sense that the power that has
been ascribed to - and frequently assumed by - cities has been
overstated; that the power of cities and city-networks to make a
difference in global climate politics is not what it appears. This
book explores the implications of city-engagement in global climate
politics, outlining a theoretical framework that can be used to
understand the power of cities in relation to transnational
city-networks, multinational corporations and nation-states. The
book will be of interest to students and scholars of transnational
governance, global environmental politics and climate change.
Pook Press celebrates the great Golden Age of Illustration in
children's literature. Many of the earliest children's books,
particularly those dating back to the 1850s and before, are now
extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working
to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality,
colour editions, using the original text and artwork so these works
can delight another generation of children.
