The Moon Pool (1918) is a novel by A. Merritt. Originally published
as a pair of short stories in the Argosy All-Story Weekly,
Merritt's novel is an influential work in the tradition of lost
world fantasy, a subgenre pioneered by Edgar Rice Burroughs and
Arthur Conan Doyle. Thought to have influenced H. P. Lovecraft's
"The Call of Cthulhu," The Moon Pool is widely regarded as
Merritt's finest work. "Now the Thing was close to the end of the
white path; close up to the barrier of darkness still between the
ship and the sparkling head of the moon stream. Now it beat up
against that barrier as a bird against the bars of its cage. It
whirled with shimmering plumes, with swirls of lacy light, with
spirals of living vapour." While on a seafaring expedition, Dr.
Goodwin, a brilliant scientist, first makes contact with a being
known to some as the Dweller, and to others as the Shining One.
Created by a lost race residing in the Earth's core, the Dweller
soon broke free from its masters and took on a capacity for evil.
Now, all that remains of the once vibrant and advanced underground
civilization are the three Silent Ones, wise and immortal beings
whose duty-if they can fulfill it-is to destroy the Dweller once
and for all. Joined by pilot Larry O'Keefe, Dr. Goodwin voyages
underground to learn more about the creature he first saw by the
light of the moon. With a beautifully designed cover and
professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of A. Merritt's The
Moon Pool is a classic of American fantasy fiction reimagined for
modern readers.

The significant strides made during the past decade in neonatal
medicine are based largely upon the provision of intensive
perinatal care to the parturient, her fetus, and the newborn. In
addition to technologic advances in the bioelec- tronic monitoring
of the fetus and newborn, the introduction of noninvasive methods
to monitor oxygenation, the pharma- cologic manipulation ofthe
ductus arteriosus and pulmonary vasculature, and the use of
ultrasonographic diagnosis of congenital heart defects and other
lesions, intensive efforts by neonatal specialists throughout the
world have also contri- buted to the decline in neonatal and infant
mortality. Professors Wille and Obladen have provided an
authoritative manual outlining intensive care of newborns and the
ways in which the science of neonatal medicine, the technology of
the 1980 s, and the art of application have resulted in the
practice of neonatal intensive care at the Kinderklinik of the
University of Heidelberg. The English translation resulted from the
success of the German edition and will serve well the needs of the
English-speaking student and practitioner of neonatal intensive
care. T. Allen Merrit, M. D.

the studying is based on inspiring verses from the Tanach (Old
Testament) which is very motivating to those who love God's Word

be whetted to continue searching the Bible's original Hebrew for
more "hidden treasures." From the Foreword by Rabbi Steven J.
Weiler of Tampa, FL Recently, God has brought many Jewish people to
receive Yeshua (Jesus) as their Messiah, and He has brought many
Christians to once again search for their foundational
understanding of Scripture - through Jewish eyes as they realize
that Jesus and His disciples were Jewish. One of the miracles that
God performed in the late 19th century was the revival of the
Hebrew language. This revival has generated a new and great
interest in learning Hebrew. Hebrew is not just for Israelis, nor
is it only for Bar & Bat Mitzvah students. Hebrew is for all of
us who want to know better how to "handle accurately the Word of
Truth." Hebrew: Beginning Your Journey, by Mary A. Merritt, is a
great way for young and old to start the journey of learning
Hebrew. It makes great sense. The pictures are informative and
visually inspiring. Tying the Hebrew to the Scriptures is
motivating and extremely helpful in "hiding the Word in our
hearts." The logical progression in this book makes the learning of
Hebrew attainable. You have what you need to step-by-step get to
the next level: lesson plans, assignments, quizzes, writing
practice - the list goes on and on. This is a journey worth taking.
May God bless you and your family as you experience the joys of
learning Hebrew.
Merritt's science fiction and fantasy inspired many to become
future writers in the field. His influence is widespread and
continues to the present day. **** The Moon Pool is his seminal
piece. It is a haunting tale of "fantasy, romance, adventure;
something of a mystery, something of the supernatural." (New York
Times Book Review). **** The story details the adventures of Walter
Goodwin, who leads an expedition to rescue those who have fallen
victim to the Dweller The Dweller is a being of enormous power,
unimaginable terror and great beauty, created by the ancient
inhabitants of the mythic land of Mauria, deep within the bowels of
the earth. **** This student edition contains critical essays by
Hugo winning Cory Panshin and Paul Cook, Principal Lecturer
(English) at Arizona State University.
Private club management is stressful because of the emotional
energy it consumes. The effects of long- term stress can lead to
burnout and turnover which averages over 100 percent annually as an
industry and over 200 percent in some hospitality companies. This
study examines burnout in private club management utilizing a
three-part survey instrument completed by more than 150 private
club managers located across the United States. Further, it
presents an extensive list of recommendations to assist leaders in
reducing the negative effects of the three aspects of burnout
syndrome.
The purpose of this study was to examine the interpersonal work
values and behavior of club managers in work settings and to
determine the influence of such variables on employee
organizational culture. A total of 301 participant managers were
drawn from the private club industry. A survey questionnaire,
personal interviews, and unobtrusive observation methods were
utilized. Checks were used to verify that the data are free from
organizational bias by club type, regional bias by geographic area,
test for response stability across two time periods and survey
instrument versions, and guard against response bias by checking
non-respondents.
