Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems - IFIP TC 8 International Conference on Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems (CONFENIS 2006) April 24-26, 2006, Vienna, Austria (Hardcover, 2006 ed.)
A. Min Tjoa, Li Xu, Sohail Chaudhry
R4,453 Discovery Miles 44 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The idea for this conference came from a meeting of the IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Technical Committee for Information Systems (TC8) in Guimares, Portugal in June 2005. Our goal is to build an IFIP forum among the different Information Systems Communities of TC8 dealing with the increasing important area of Enterprise Information Systems. In this particular meeting the committee members intensively discussed the innovative and unique characteristics of Enterprise Information Systems as scientific sub-discipline. Hence, in this meeting it was decided by the TC8 members that the IFIP TC8 First International Conference on Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems (CONFENIS 2006) would be held in April 2006 in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Li Xu (USA) and Dr. A Min Tjoa (IFIP TC8) were assigned to propose a concept for this conference in order to establish an IFIP platform for EIS researchers and practitioners in the field to share experience, and discussing opportunities and challenges. We are very pleased therefore to have this conference organised by the help of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG). OCG supports the idea of this conference due to the urgent need of research and dissemination of new techniques in this key area. We received 180 papers from more than 30 countries for CONFENIS and the Program Committee eventually selected xx papers or extended abstracts, making an acceptance rate of xx% of submitted papers. Each paper was thoroughly reviewed by at least two qualified reviewers.

Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems II, Volume 2 presents work from the IFIP TC 8 WG 8.9 International Conference on the Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems (CONFENIS 2007).

Enterprise information systems (EIS) have become increasingly popular over the last 15 years. EIS integrate and support business processes across functional boundaries in a supply chain environment. In recent years, more and more enterprises world-wide have adopted EIS such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for running their businesses. Previously, information systems such as CAD, CAM, MRPII and CRM were widely used for partial functional integration within a business organization. With global operation, global supply chain, and fierce competition in place, there is a need for suitable EIS such as ERP, E-Business or E-Commerce systems to integrate extended enterprises in a supply chain environment with the objective of achieving efficiency, competency, and competitiveness. As an example, the global economy has forced business enterprises such as Dell and Microsoft to adopt ERP in order to take the advantage of strategic alliances within a global supply chain environment. Today, not only the large companies, but also the medium companies are quickly learning that a highly integrated EIS is more and more a required element of doing business. Businesses all over the world are investing billions of dollars in acquiring and implementing EIS in particular ERP systems by SAP and Oracle. As a result, there is a growing demand for researching EIS to provide insights into challenges, issues, and solutions related to the design, implementation and management ofEIS.

R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The synergy and convergence of research on grid computing and peer-to-peer (P2P) computing have materialized in the meeting of the two research communities: parallel systems and distributed systems. The main common objective is to harness Internet-connected resources (e.g., CPU, memory, network bandwidth, data sources) at very large scale. In this framework, the Globe Conference tries to consolidate the bidirectional bridge between grid and P2P systems and large-scale heterogeneous distributed database systems. Today, the grid and P2P systems hold a more and more important position in the landscape of the research in large-scale distributed systems, and the applications which require an effective management of voluminous, distributed and heterogeneous data. This importance comes out of characteristics offered by these systems: autonomy and dynamicity of peers, decentralized control for scaling, and transparent sharing large-scale distributed resources. The second edition of the International Conference on Data Management in Grid and P2P Systems was held during September 1-2, 2009 in Linz, Austria. The main objective of this conference was to present the latest results in research and applications, to identify new issues, and to shape future directions.

R1,635 Discovery Miles 16 350 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

For more than a decade, data warehousing and knowledge discovery technologies have been developing into key technologies for decision-making processes in com- nies. Since 1999, due to the relevant role of these technologies in academia and ind- try, the Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK) conference series have become an international forum where both practitioners and researchers share their findings, publish their relevant results and dispute in depth research issues and experiences on data warehousing and knowledge discovery systems and applications. The 7th International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2005) continued series of successful conferences dedicated to these topics. In this edition, the conference tried to provide the right, logical balance between data warehousing and knowledge discovery. Regarding data warehousing, papers cover different relevant and still unsolved research problems, such as the modelling of ETL processes and integration problems, designing OLAP technologies from XML do- ments, modelling data warehouses and data mining applications together, impro- ments in query processing, partitioning and implementations. With regard to data mining, a variety of papers were presented on subjects including data mining te- niques, clustering, classification, text documents and classification, and patterns. These proceedings contain the technical papers that were selected for presentation at the conference. We received 196 abstracts, and finally received 162 papers from 38 countries, and the Program Committee eventually selected 51 papers, making an acceptance rate of 31.4 % of submitted papers.

Since its inception in 1997, the EuropeanConferenceon Researchand Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries (ECDL) has come a long way, creating a strong interdisciplinarycommunityofresearchersandpractitionersinthe?eldofdigital libraries. We are proud to present the proceedings of ECDL 2005, the ninth conference in this series, which, following Pisa (1997), Heraklion (1998), Paris (1999), Lisbon (2000), Darmstadt (2001), Rome (2002), Trondheim (2003), and Bath (2004), took place on September 18 23, 2005 in Vienna, Austria. ECDL 2005 featured separate calls for paper and poster submissions, resu- ing in 130 full papers and 32 posters being submitted to the conference. All - pers were subject to a thorough peer-review process, with an 87-person-strong Program Committee and a further 68 additional reviewers from 35 countries from basically all continents sharing the tremendous review load, producing - tween three and four detailed reviews per paper. Based on these, as well as on the discussion that took place during a one-week on-line PC discussion phase, 41 papers were ?nally selected for inclusion in the conference program during a 1. 5 day PC meeting, resulting in an acceptance rate of only 32%. Furthermore, 17 paper submissions were accepted for poster presentations with an additional 13 posters being accepted based on a simpli?ed review process of 2 3 reviews per poster from the poster submission track. Both the full papers as well as extended abstracts of the posters presented at ECDL 2005 are provided in these proceedings."
