This new book for medical students contains over 60 of the most
commonly encountered OSCE stations in medicine and surgery. The
OSCEs are arranged according to type of skill; for example
history-taking, ethics and communication, physical examination.
This is an accessible book for students under pressure who are
revising for a clinical OSCE. It provides simple advice, tips about
preparation, and will be easily understood. It provides sample OSCE
station questions and simulated patient scripts (with answers) for
practice at home.
The NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Dynamics, Transport am.
Photochemistry in the Middle Atmosphere of the Southern Hemisphere"
was held in San Francisco, California, U.S.A., 15-17 April 1989. In
addition to NATO, the workshop was supported by the University of
California, Los Angeles, and by the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, U.S.A. (NASA). The American Meteorological Society
was a co-operating organization. The venue for the workshop was the
Lone Mountain Conference Center of the University of San Francisco.
The workshop was organized and directed by Dr A.O'Neill (Hadley
Centre for Climate Prediction and Research, Meteorological Office,
Bracknell, U.K.) and Prof C.R. Mechoso (Dept of Atmospheric
Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles, U.S.A.). The
workshop was the third one held as part of the Middle Atmosphere in
the Southern Hemisphere (MASH) project, an international effort
(under the auspices of the Middle Atmosphere Program) to learn more
about dynamics, transport and photochemistry in the middle
atmosphere of the southern hemisphere. Before the discovery that,
during recent years, a dramatic thinning of the ozone layer takes
place over Antarctica in spring - the "ozone hole" - the middle
atmosphere of the southern hemisphere had received much less
attention than that of the northern hemisphere from meteorologists
and atmospheric chemists. The MASH project was instituted to remedy
this comparative lack of interest.

Summary . 502 Index 505 PREFACE Numerical modeling ofthe global
atmosphere has entered a new era. Whereas atmospheric modeling was
once the domain ofa few research units at universities or
government laboratories, it can now be performed almost anywhere
thanks to the affordability of computing power. Atmospheric general
circulation models (GCMs) are being used by a rapidly growing
scientific community in a wide range of applications. With
widespread interest in anthropogenic climate change, GCMs have a
role also in informing policy discussions. Many of the scientists
using GCMs have backgrounds in fields other than atmospheric
sciences and may be unaware of how GCMs are constructed.
Recognizing this explosion in the application of GCMs, we organized
a two week course in order to give young scientists who are
relatively new to the field of atmospheric modeling a thorough
grounding in the basic principles on which GCMs are constructed, an
insight into their strengths and weaknesses, and guid ance on how
meaningful numerical experiments are formulated and analyzed.
Sponsored by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and
other institu tions, this Advanced Study Institute (ASI) took place
May 25-June 5, 1998, at II Ciocco, a remote hotel on a Tuscan
hillside in Italy."

Published in 1869, American Bastile remains the most complete
account of arbitrary arrests made by the Lincoln administration
during the Civil War. One hundred cases of political prinsoners are
described in detail. Anyone speaking against the government or
against the war or resisting the draft was liable to military
arrest with transport to state prisons far from home. People
disappeared. They were held without trial and without being charged
with any crime. These practices were unknown to Americans even
under the English kings. It was not thought possible that
authorities could issue such orders or that anyone would carry them
out. American Bastile raises all the questions of state power and
individual liberty. What are the foundations of popular government.
What are the limits of executive authority in time of war. What are
the privileges and immunities of the American citizen.
This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the
