This book presents a new, efficient numerical-analytical method for solving the Laplace equation on an arbitrary polygon. This method, called the approximate block method, overcomes indicated difficulties and has qualitatively more rapid convergence than well-known difference and variational-difference methods. The block method also solves the complicated problem of approximate conformal mapping of multiply-connected polygons onto canonical domains with no preliminary information required. The high-precision results of calculations carried out on the computer are presented in an abundance of tables substantiating the exponential convergence of the block method and its strong stability concerning the rounding-off of errors.

Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Spectroscopy of Solids focuses on the experimental methods and recent experimental results which are currently employed in the millimeter wave spectral range. Time dome, Fourier transform, coherent source and resonant techniques are discussed by leading authorities in the field. The usefulness of the methods is discussed by reviewing experimental results on metals and semiconductors. Recent experiment covering modern topics such as correlation on metals, superconductors and confined quantum systems are also discussed. The volume is aimed at physicists, engineers and materials scientists interested in the dynamics of solid matter.
Polar Seas Oceanography describes a new tool called the Generic Model System for simulations and assessment of potential radioactive spreading in the Arctic regions, through rivers, estuaries, regional seas and the Arctic and Atlantic basin. It considers the present and future potential for spreading of radionuclear pollution from sources, such as from the major Russian processing plants through Siberian rivers as well as from European sources such as the UK Sellafield plant. The book provides support for decision making involving risk prevention, forecasting and readiness for probable crises, alerting and detection, relief and mitigation and damage assessment. The book combines the expertise of professionals from the radionuclear and climate-change sciences."

Rapid development of Earth observation satellite using remote sensing techniques enables observations of the oceanic processes by sea and airborne study to be carried out over vast areas in a short time. This first book written by Russian and Norwegian scientists is an analysis of studies of the Kara Sea and presents a unique catalogue of environmental and pollution data of the joint Norwegian and Russian oceanographic expedition studies of the Kara Sea spanning three decades.
