As the Bird Sings is a collection of inspirational poems that will cause you to reflect, tug at your heartstrings, and ultimately touch your soul. In it, the author addresses the experiences of life that we all share--our feelings, our goals and dreams, our fears of illness and aging--and with her poetry manages to instill in us a fresh perspective and a renewed hope. Lovers of traditional rhyming verse will appreciate the almost musical cadence that the author, a former dancer and choreographer, injects into this collection of poetry. It is verse that will entice the reader to reread it often and commit to memory many of its passages. In the tradition of classical poetry, it delves into our innermost being, lays bare our concerns about life and living, and encourages the best that's within us.

The antebellum southern Baptist churches were led, in general, by populists who addressed their appeals to the common person and allowed women and slaves to vote on membership matters. Paradoxically, at the same time, no denomination could wield the religious authority as ruthlessly as the Baptists - between 1785 and 1860 they ritually excommunicated forty to fifty thousand church members in Georgia alone. Wills traces this split to two rival strains in the Baptist church - moderates who emphasized personal religious freedom and tolerance, and fundamentalists who preached discipline and the inerrancy of scripture. He demonstrates how a denomination of freedom-loving individuals came to embrace exclusionist spirituality, and how the results of that conflict continue to affect the church.

Wills' Mineral Processing Technology - An Introduction to the Practical Aspects of Ore Treatment and Mineral Recovery... Wills' Mineral Processing Technology - An Introduction to the Practical Aspects of Ore Treatment and Mineral Recovery (Paperback, 8th edition)
Barry A. Wills, James Finch
R2,016 Discovery Miles 20 160 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

Wills' Mineral Processing Technology: An Introduction to the Practical Aspects of Ore Treatment and Mineral Recovery has been the definitive reference for the mineral processing industry for over thirty years. This industry standard reference provides practicing engineers and students of mineral processing, metallurgy, and mining with practical information on all the common techniques used in modern processing installations. Each chapter is dedicated to a major processing procedure-from underlying principles and technologies to the latest developments in strategies and equipment for processing increasingly complex refractory ores. The eighth edition of this classic reference enhances coverage of practical applications via the inclusion of new material focused on meeting the pressing demand for ever greater operational efficiency, while addressing the pivotal challenges of waste disposal and environmental remediation. Advances in automated mineralogy and analysis and high-pressure grinding rolls are given dedicated coverage. The new edition also contains more detailed discussions of comminution efficiency, classification, modeling, flocculation, reagents, liquid-solid separations, and beneficiation of phosphate, and industrial materials. Finally, the addition of new examples and solved problems further facilitates the book's pedagogical role in the classroom.

Southern Baptist Seminary 1859-2009 (Paperback): Gregory A. Wills Southern Baptist Seminary 1859-2009 (Paperback)

With 16.3 million members and 44,000 churches, the Southern Baptist Convention is the largest Baptist group in the world, and the largest Protestant denomination in the United States. Unlike the so-called mainstream Protestant denominations, Southern Baptists have remained stubbornly conservative, refusing to adapt their beliefs and practices to modernity's individualist and populist values. Instead, they have held fast to traditional orthodoxy in such fundamental areas as biblical inspiration, creation, conversion, and miracles. Gregory Wills argues that Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has played a fundamental role in the persistence of conservatism, not entirely intentionally. Tracing the history of the seminary from the beginning to the present, Wills shows how its foundational commitment to preserving orthodoxy was implanted in denominational memory in ways that strengthened the denomination's conservatism and limited the seminary's ability to stray from it. In a set of circumstances in which the seminary played a central part, Southern Baptists' populist values bolstered traditional orthodoxy rather than diminishing it. In the end, says Wills, their populism privileged orthodoxy over individualism. The story of Southern Seminary is fundamental to understanding Southern Baptist controversy and identity. Wills's study sheds important new light on the denomination that has played - and continues to play - such a central role in our national history.

Democracy has not always fostered anti-authoritarian individualism. No American denomination identified itself more closely with the nation's democratic ideal than the Baptists. Most antebellum southern Baptist churches allowed women and slaves to vote on membership matters and preferred populist preachers who addressed their appeals to the common person. Paradoxically, no denomination wielded religious authority as zealously as the Baptists. Between 1785 and 1860 they ritually (and democratically) excommunicated forty to fifty thousand church members in Georgia alone. Wills demonstrates how a denomination of freedom-loving individualists came to embrace an exclusivist spirituality - a spirituality that continues to shape Southern Baptist churches in contemporary conflicts between moderates who urge tolerance and conservatives who require belief in scriptural inerrancy. Wills's analysis advances our understanding of the interaction between democracy and religious authority, and will appeal to scholars of American religion, culture, and history, as well as to Baptist observers.

Awakening in Change - Working with Change on the Path to Enlightenment (Paperback): Merl a. Will-Wallace Awakening in Change - Working with Change on the Path to Enlightenment (Paperback)
Merl a. Will-Wallace
R428 Discovery Miles 4 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Change is not something we master, but we can learn to work with change to understand its meaning in our life and to awaken to our true self. In Awakening in Change Merl Will-Wallace provides a detailed guide to working with change to find meaning and purpose in what change is trying to teach us. He provides a tool kit for inquiring into the deeper messages that change brings to the present moment so that we may see clearly the path forward that our Soul seeks to take us. Change can then be seen as a way to discover our true nature of being and a catalyst for our personal evolution and awakening. All change can then be seen as a blessing, even if it is difficult and disruptive to our lives. Awakening in Change is divided into three sections. The first section details the key tools that assist us in working with change. The second section discusses the change process and the importance of making sure we work through the three stages of change. The third section provides many examples on how change has affected the lives of many individuals, as well as the author. Throughout the book Mr. Will-Wallace presents a variety of real-life case studies that bring to life how you can recognize and work with change professionally, personally and spiritually. This book is a must for these rapidly changing times.
