Jose Juan Tablada (1871-1945) wrote more than 20 books on a range
of subjects in several genres but is best known as an avant-garde
poet of the Mexican Modernista movement. Now all three volumes of
his experimental poetry - Un dia...poemas sinteticos, El jarro de
flores (disociaciones liricas), and Li-Po y otros poemas - have
been translated into English, carefully researched and crafted, and
presented here for the first time in one volume. The work also
includes translations of Tablada poems that appeared in print prior
to his primary works. These precursors trace the path that would
lead Tablada to his great experiment.
Hawaii, the fiftieth state, is one of the world's most popular
destinations for travel, boasting over 7 million visitors each
year. The population is enormously proud of the state's ancestral
heritage, a pride reflected in the ubiquity of cultural artifacts
and traditions as well as native Hawaiian's status with English as
one of the state's two official languages. This unique dictionary
and phrasebook offers an excellent introduction to Hawaiian words
and phrases, with sections devoted to basic greetings, food &
drink, weather, weather, and assorted cultural activities. It is an
ideal companion for vacationers and others interested in
traditional Hawaiian culture.
An up-to-date Catalan language resource for students and travelers
to Barcelona and other cities in the Pyrenees region. Catalan is a
romance language named after the autonomous province Catalonia in
Spain and spoken by well over 9 million people worldwide. It is
also the national and only official language of Andorra. Most
Catalan speakers, however, reside in Spain's Catalonia and Valencia
provinces. Catalan is not a dialect of Spanish, but a language that
developed independently from Vulgar Latin during the Middle Ages
around the Pyrenees region. During the 19th century and the rise of
a nationalist cultural movement in Catalonia, the language was
revived as a literary language. Since the 1980s, Catalan has been
the language used in state schools, and thus most residents of
Catalonia are bilingual in Catalan and Spanish. Ideal for
businesspeople, travelers, and students, this dictionary features
over 16,000 word-to-word entries, including common words as well as
technical, legal, business and locally-specific terms (key cities,
foods, and cultural terms). It also includes a comprehensive
pronunciation guide and a concise discussion of the basics of
Catalan grammar.
