The distinction between ancient and modern modes of historical
thought is characterized by the growing complexity of the
discipline of history in modernity. Consequently, the
epistemological and methodological standard of ancient
historiography is typically held as inferior against the modern
ideal. This book serves to address this apparent deficit. Its scope
is three-fold. Firstly, it aims at encountering ancient modes of
historical and historiographical thought within the province of
their own horizon. Secondly, this book considers the possibility of
a dialogue between ancient and modern philosophies of history
concerning the influence of ancient historical thought on the
development of modern philosophy of history and the utility of
modern philosophy of history in the interpretation of ancient
historiography. Thirdly, this book explores the continuities and
discontinuities in historical method and thought from antiquity to
modernity. Ultimately, this volume demonstrates the necessity of
re-evaluating our assumptions about the relation of ancient and
modern historical thought and lays the groundwork for a more
fruitful dialogue in the future.
True Colors (or, Affirmations in a Crisis) is a chronicle of
survival by trailblazing artist Zora J Murff. Murff constructs a
manual for coming to terms with the historic and contemporary
realities of America's divisive structures of privilege and caste.
Since leaving social work to pursue photography over a decade ago,
Murff's work has consistently grappled with the complicit
entanglement of the medium in the histories of spectacle,
commodification, and race, often contextualizing his own
photographs with found and appropriated images and commissioned
texts. True Colors continues that work, expanding to address the
act of remembering and the politics of self, which Murff identifies
as "the duality of Black patriotism and the challenges of finding
belonging in places not made for me-of creating an affirmation in a
moment of crisis as I learn to remake myself in my own image."
Nuanced, challenging, and inspiring, True Colors (or, Affirmations
in a Crisis) is a must-have monograph by a rising and standout
artist. True Colors is the result of the inaugural Next Step Award,
a partnership between Aperture and Baxter St at the Camera Club of
New York, with the generous support of 7G Foundation. An exhibition
of the work will open at Baxter St in New York in November 2021.

An exploration and celebration of an iconic Southern food and
culture. The Hot Chicken Project is part recipe book (40 recipes
covering the best mains, sandwiches, sides, salads and sauces),
part narrative, part pictorial celebration of the history and power
hot chicken holds over the city of Nashville - and beyond. It
frames the stories of the people and families and communities who
have cooked and eaten and appropriated it in Nashville over several
generations. It offers a loud, opinionated take-no-prisoners
perspective on food culture in the US (and beyond) today, as well
as being an incomparable how-to manual for the VERY best hot
chicken and accompaniments - wherever you are.
