Invitation To Romans
8 sessions, 60-90 minutes
Experience required: In Depth

Exploring how people have interpreted Romans through the ages is a good lens to view the history of Christianity itself. Compare what Paul writes in Romans to what theologians like Augustine, Luther and Calvin say in trying to understand Paul in their time. At the end of this study your group will have a more informed commitment to Paul s radical vision of God s relationship to both Christians and Jews and to their relationship to each other, thanks to the "love of God in Christ Jesus."

The weekly video segments first present text read aloud against a backdrop of a wide variety of church settings followed by a conversation between a church historian and a church theologian about the text. The second weekly video is led by story teller, Michael Williams, who shares snapshot views of how Romans has been read through history.

This study is meaty and extremely enjoyable for those students with some familiarity of Romans and with a strong biblical foundation to rely on. Sessions:
1. An Orientation to Romans
2. The Righteousness of God and the Faith of Jesus
3. Abraham, Father of All
4. Christ, the New Adam
5. Sin, Law, and Grace
6. Divine Purpose and Human Responsibility
7. The Salvation of Israel and the Nations
8. Love and Humility Are the Making of God's Kingdom"

This study takes groups into the rich tapestry of Genesis exploring the interaction between God and very human people - pride, family relationships, conflict and journey all showcase the best known stories of Creation, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Rebekah and Joseph.

The video reflects the drama of the Genesis stories, first with selected text dramatized by an actor, and then study writer, Peter Enns interviews a scholar to help unpack the meaning and the mystery in the stories.

This is an excellent choice for adults with strong biblical background from Sunday school or personal study. Disciple Bible Study participants who want more focused time with 10 full weeks on Genesis will be a good candidates for this study. Sessions: 1. The Beginning...and What Went Wrong 2. Another Beginning: The Flood...and What Went Wrong 3. Another Beginning: Abraham and the Patriarchs 4. Abraham and a Glimpse to the Future 5. The Promise Fulfilled: Isaac 6. Another Beginning: Jacob and the Uneasy Birth of a People 7. Jacob: The Struggle Continues 8. Another New Beginning: Joseph and the Family of Israel 9. The Trek Into Egypt 10. An End and Another Beginning: Israel's Story

Your youth will go on a scavenger hunt through the Bible and read it in its entirety over six 12-week legs. How many times have you wished your youth knew more of the Bible? Sure, they can give you a rundown of the some familiar stories; but when was the last time they looked at the Bible as a scavenger-hunt, digging and searching for new discoveries to open up their faith? The Amazing Bible Race was created with that in mind. Teams will work together to solve weekly challenges, encourage one another, and build community as you all race toward this goal. The Amazing Bible Race is less like a sprint and more like a marathon, building knowledge, endurance, and faith with every chapter read. Groups accrue points and at the end of the official Race the top ten point getters receive $500 toward a mission organization of their choice or towards their youth missions program. The Amazing Bible Race is a 6-volume scavenger hunt through the Bible for youth groups. The race has six legs through different sections of the Bible and promises excitement and new discoveries as youth live into the sacred stories. Each leg includes a daily reader for every runner and a CD-Rom leader's guide with everything a "race director" needs, including website registration. Runners will be assigned to teams and will support one another in the daily readings and work together to complete "Weekly Challenges," "Fast Forwards," and "Hurdles." The program includes a web component, with both administration and publicity features. Administration tools help youth workers manage the race, coordinate weekly challenge turn-in, send e-mail reminders, and tally points. Publicity tools help build excitement, allow teams to check their standings against other youth groups, upload photos of teams "running" the race; and it allows teams to challenge another youth group for a one-on-one race. Teams get points for daily reading, completing the Weekly Challenge, accomplishing any Fast Forwards, and jumping over any Hurdles. Points are turned in and tallied on the website. Race directors are encouraged to celebrate the "finish line" of each leg with a party and a recognition of the winning team. The six legs of the race are Leg 1 Law: Genesis Deuteronomy Leg 2 History: Joshua Esther Leg 3 Wisdom: Job Song of Solomon Leg 4 Prophets: Isaiah Malachai Leg 5 Gospel and the Early Church: Matthew Acts Leg 6 Letters and Prophecy: Romans Revelation

FaithQuestions. "A collection of short-term, small-group, in-depth studies in the fields of theology, ethics, mission, hermeneutics (biblical interpretation), and church history. Each volume includes leader/learner helps to support group leaders with the sessions. The resource is designed for use in Sunday morning groups, midweek groups, independent study, or retreats. Sessions range in length from 45 to 90 minutes. How do we define divine healing? Is divine healing always worth the price? What is the connection between the divine and human roles in the healing of ourselves, our loved ones, our churches, and our communities? How do we need one another for healing? Does prayer make a difference in healing? Will we seek healing if we believe we should suffer? How do we experience divine healing through rituals, spiritual practices, and worship? What can healing mean in the face of death? This book explores these questions and others associated with healing in the Christian tradition. The author invites us to converse with multiple answers to such questions as we explore personal experiences, specific stories, and illustrations out of which they emerge. In our exploration we will discover that divine healing occurs in many ways, often in ways we did not imagine. "It matters that we engage in this hard work," Vogel writes, "because God's people seek healing and do not agree about what healing means. We ache for wholeness in our bodies and in our relationships, and we are not sure what it looks like, what it feels like, what it is. All of us yearn to know where to look for sources of healing, and we hear conflicting directions that promise to guide us."
