Ornamental fish keeping and its propagation has been an interesting activity for many, which provide not only aesthetic pleasure but also financial openings. In Bangladesh, about 80 exotic fish species were found with their decorative value, but in most cases, aquarists and transporters get problem during their rearing and transportation due to having no knowledge on their feeding management technique appropriately. As exotic ornamental fishes have to transport at long distance without feeding condition, therefore stress becomes arise due to starvation and leads to weak and death. This book provides some general information on survival performance, weight loss and behaviour of some freshwater exotic ornamental fish species under starved condition in aquarium and also provides physico-chemistry data of aquarium water under that condition. This book would be beneficial for aquarists, transporters, researchers, and other people related to this subject.

Giant freshwater prawn is the most important and valuable fisheries item among all other fisheries commodities in Bangladesh. It plays an important role in the economy of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has unique and favorable environment for prawn and fish culture. Culture of is gaining popularity in Bangladesh because of its high market demand and suitability to stock with other commercially important fish. Polyculture of prawn with carps makes the ecological balance of the pond water, preventing the formation of massive algae blooms and at the same time increase the total production. While fish occupy mainly the water column rarely exploring the bottom, prawns live along with the substrate and efficiently utilize the benthic production. In this book, the physico-chemical and biological condition of pond, prawn and fish growth performance, survival rate, feeding efficiency and production are mentioned. It is found that the production of prawn with carps in polycuture pond at Northern Bangladesh is satisfactory under supplementary diets which are made from local fish feed ingredients.

Air-breathing fishes have become of great interest in recent years for several reasons in different countries over the world. These include the many adaptations of their respiratory and cardiovascular systems for obtaining oxygen from air and water, adaptation in their food and feeding habits, reproduction and behavior. Also, they are important source of animal protein especially in drought and flood prone areas. At present, air-breathing fishes are gradually introducing in different aquaculture practices like cage culture, waste fed aquaculture etc. Unfortunately, there is no systematic record of air-breathing fishes in Bangladesh. Species profile of air-breathing fishes with special emphasis on their air-breathing organs are described in this document. So, we strongly believe that this document would be helpful to many scientists, students and teaching staff in Bangladesh and other countries.

Exotic fishes have been introducing in Bangladesh since 1950; mainly for increasing aquaculture production and serving ornamental purposes; but there is no systematic record of these fish species is maintained in Bangladesh. Still new species are introducing every year. These exotic species are playing a vital role in the total fish production as well as generating income and employment opportunities. Several species are also proved and considered as threat to the native species. In this work, status of exotic fishes are provided with special emphasis on brief description of their introduction, morphology, food and feeding, breeding, impacts and economic importance. We believe, this document would help those people who are interested in fish and Bangladesh fisheries and also working on exotic fishes, especially researchers, teachers, students involved in fisheries sector as well as aquarists too.
