Muhammad: His Character and Conduct (Paperback): Adil Salahi Muhammad: His Character and Conduct (Paperback)
Adil Salahi
R451 Discovery Miles 4 510 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Muslims all over the world see Muhammad as God's last messenger to mankind, and, for every community that wants to live under God's guidance, the Prophet Muhammad's character and conduct is the light showing the way to God's pleasure. The Prophet's miracle was to give to humanity a system of life that provides for all the needs of body, mind and soul, and elevates man's aspirations towards a sublime ideal. Through his actions, he showed the way to achieve all this in a very simple, direct and truthful manner. He built a state that was dedicated to truth and justice and to the liberation of man throughout the world. He wrote to emperors, kings and rulers, calling on them to believe in God and to follow His message, yet, at the same time, he lived a life of poverty, leaving aside the riches that were offered to him.

Muslim Woman's Participation in Social Life (Paperback): Abd Al-Halim Abu Shuqqah Muslim Woman's Participation in Social Life (Paperback)
Abd Al-Halim Abu Shuqqah; Translated by Adil Salahi
R227 Discovery Miles 2 270 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The emancipation of women cannot be complete unless it is coupled with the emancipation of men. This can only be accomplished by drawing our social values from the Qur'an and the sunnah. In this volume, the author shows that mixed social life was the pattern in the early Muslim society established by the Prophet. This 8-volume series is the author's abridged version of his longer work with the same title, spanning a 25-year study of the main sources of Islamic teachings: the Qur'an and the authentic sunnah. The author's study comprised 14 great anthologies of hadiths, but in his book he only rarely includes hadiths from any anthology other than the two most authentic ones of al-Bukhari and Muslim. This series will illustrate the status of the Muslim woman that is greatly different from what is assumed in most Muslim societies today.

In this volume, the author highlights the rights relevant to marriage. These include the right of all young men and women to early marriage. They are entitled to state help to achieve this. We learn in this volume that the woman has the full right to choose her husband and the right to terminate her marriage. The author lays strong and needed emphasis on the fact that Islam gives men and women equal rights in their marriage and family life. As he discusses divorce and polygamy, he stresses the Islamic manners and controls that apply to both.

The Debate On the Rule of Cause Prevention and its Strict implementation (Paperback): Abd Al-Halim Abu Shuqqah The Debate On the Rule of Cause Prevention and its Strict implementation (Paperback)
Abd Al-Halim Abu Shuqqah; Translated by Adil Salahi
R225 Discovery Miles 2 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The author devotes this volume to a debate concerning the application of the rule of cause prevention. He shows that a strict and extremist application has been the reason for many restrictions that social tradition in many Muslim countries have imposed on women, depriving them of much that is permissible in Islam. He cites clear evidence confirming that women’s full participation in social life was part of the Prophet’s guidance. His approach is always balanced between the freedom Islam gives to women’s participation in life’s activities and the need to adhere to Islamic regulations and values concerning attire and behaviour.

R228 Discovery Miles 2 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This 8-volume series is the author's abridged version of his longer work with the same title, spanning a 25-year study of the main sources of Islamic teachings: the Qur'an and the authentic sunnah. The author's study comprised 14 great anthologies of hadiths, but in his book he only rarely includes hadiths from any anthology other than the two most authentic ones of al-Bukhari and Muslim. This series will illustrate the status of the Muslim woman that is greatly different from what is assumed in most Muslim societies today. The Prophet established complete equality between men and women, with both having their respective special functions. This volume draws the features of the Muslim Woman in everyday social life in accordance to the Qur'an and Sunnah drawing upon specific examples of incidents as well as different prominent female figures in Islam during the Prophet's lifetime. It shows that much of what we imagine to be Islamic rules are no more than social or cultural tradition.

The Debate - Participation in Social Life and Face Uncovering (Paperback): Abd Al-Halim Abu Shuqqah The Debate - Participation in Social Life and Face Uncovering (Paperback)
Abd Al-Halim Abu Shuqqah; Translated by Adil Salahi
R229 Discovery Miles 2 290 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In this volume of his work, the author starts a debate taking two full volumes to answer the objections that are often raised concerning social mixing and keeping a woman's face uncovered in Muslim society. This is a tradition in Islamic studies, when scholars present their views in opposition to other scholarly views. They state the view they disagree with, showing its basis and the arguments that are stated in its support before responding to it. The author gives an in-depth study showing that the rulings that were specific to the Prophet's wives are not addressed to other women. Therefore, emulating the Prophet's wives in these particular aspects is neither required nor recommended.

Over the course of six sections, this rich reference book explores the various areas of Qur'anic studies: its language, the history of its documentation, its many disciplines, the methods of interpretation, its inimitability, and finally, as a work of art. The themes explored also include the impact of the Qur'an on Islamic civilisation, as well as the various classical sub-disciplines of Qur'anic studies, including the study of the variant readings (qira'at), the reasons for revelation (asbab al-nuzul), and abrogation (naskh). Unlike some other works, Prof Zarzour also explores contemporary scholarship on the Qur'an, notably through a critical evaluation of modern tendencies such as the claim that the Qur'an contains scientific miracles, and an evaluation of some of the most recognised modern works of Qur'anic commentary (tafsir).

Adil Salahi
R326 Discovery Miles 3 260 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Qur'an is God's word. It was revealed to Prophet Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel 1,400 years ago and has been preserved in its original form ever since, guiding humankind to the Islamic creed and legislation, informing them of the stories of earlier prophets and their communities and calling people to believe in Allah, the One. Millions of people have learned its entirety by heart throughout every generation since it was first revealed. Nearly every Muslim memorises parts of it, and most recite a portion of it every day. No book, religious or otherwise, is read and recited or listened to as frequently as the Qur'an. Those who recite it in Arabic are always eager to do more, aware of its inimitable clarity, rhythm and brevity, yet modern English readers have had limited access to its meanings, with most reliant upon translations prepared in archaic English, unappealing to the contemporary reader. In this new translation the renowned author and scholar Adil Salahi has endeavoured to put the meanings of the Qur'anic verses and surahs in simple and straightforward form, so that the 21st century reader may find it concise easy to access, and yet full of expansive expression.

Al-Adab al-Mufrad, an anthology of 1329 hadiths (recorded actions and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad), is a treasured work in Muslim history by one of its most respected scholars, Imam Bukhari (809-870), whose role in presenting the most trust-worthy teachings of the Prophet Muhammad place him head and shoulders above all others in this area. In preparing this selection of hadiths Imam Bukhari aimed to set out a guide for moral conduct, based on the Prophetic example, and that of Muhammad's closest companions. All of the hadiths are directly related to the standards of manners and morality Islam wants to prevail, and Muslims throughout the world have been guided by it since its preparation over a millennium ago. What distinguishes the present work is that it includes a contemporary commentary on each topical collection of hadiths, clearly emphasising the relevance of the Prophet's teachings in our modern and complex societies. This pioneering addition marks it out as perhaps the first English work commenting on and explaining a full anthology of hadiths. The translator and author of the commentaries, Adil Salahi, has a long history of research in the Seerah and Hadith, and he has written extensively on both.

"From the 1960s to the present day, few Muslims, even those with quibbles, have doubted that In the Shade of the Qur'an is a remarkable intellectual achievement."—John Calvert, associate professor of history at Creighton University and author of Sayyid Qutb and the Origins of Radical Islamism "Widely considered to be of the most influential Qur'anic commentaries of the twentieth century."—Muhammad Mojlum Khan, author of The Muslim 100 and The Muslim Heritage of Bengal This commentary on the entire Qur'an vigorously explores its rich wisdom in a clear and coherent style. It is universally recognized as a momentous work of reference for an understanding of contemporary Islamic thinking, particularly the interpretation of the Qur'an in the twentieth century. With a focus on conveying the timeless messages found in the Qur'an, Qutb's commentary aims to reassure and reaffirm the essence and value of faith and its profound role in the life of man instead of focusing on legalistic issues. This foregrounds the moral and social advantages of each command along with their role in personal and collective life. Prefaced to each chapter is an introduction to its content, summarizing the main message of the surah. Moreover, each chapter is divided by topic in order to draw out the prevalent themes in a harmonized way. Sayyid Qutb (1906–1966) was born in Egypt in 1906. He started his career as literary writer and critic, and progressed to become one of the most original and independent Muslim thinkers of his time. He was executed by the Nasser regime of Egypt on 1 August 1966. Sayyid Qutb has more than twenty-five literary works to his name, of which In the Shade of the Qur'an, his tafsir written, and re-written, over a period of fifteen years, most of which were spent in Egyptian prisons, is the largest and most important.

A typical definition of abrogation found in the Jurisprudence literature is: 'The (heavenly) replacement of one juridical ruling with a later ruling.' This book surveys the subject of abrogation (Naskh) in the Qur'an, Hadith and Islamic literature, illustrating that the concept of abrogation was introduced after the Prophetic era in order to explain certain verses of the Qur'an and what has come to be termed as "conflicting Prophetic narrations" (Mukhtalaf al-Hadith). It goes on to suggest that the "abrogated rulings" were merely pre-Islamic cultural practices that contradicted with Islamic principles. Furthermore, the book argues that the Qur'anic verses and Prophetic narrations, which were misperceived as "conflicting," should be contextually situated and applied according to the wisdom behind them with the practical implication being the validation of all Qur'anic verses and (authentic) Prophetic instructions regardless of their perceived contradictions. Allowing Islamic jurisprudence to retain its flexibility within changing circumstances.
