for SATB and piano or orchestra This setting of Adolphe Adam's
beloved Christmas carol employs rich choral textures and a flowing
piano accompaniment to create a rousing overall effect. Opening
gently, the intensity builds gradually towards a stirring, powerful
ending. Also in the anthology, An American Christmas.
for SATB and piano or orchestra Known for his arrangements of
Christmas carols, given his high exposure as Director of the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir, Mack Wilberg has created a new carol arrangement
of Adam Adolphe's O Holy Night for mixed choirs. The piece has been
arranged in the accessible key of D-flat major along with Wilberg's
signature lush textures, which maintain the warm, rich, and
dramatic qualities found in this famous carol. Included underneath
the English is the French text for those choirs wishing to sing in
the original language. Orchestral material is available on rental.
Live performance of Swedish choreographer Mats Ek's adaptation of
Adolphe Adam's romantic ballet featuring Ana Laguna in the lead
role accompanied by other members of The Cullberg Ballet. Richard
Bonynge conducts the Orchestre National de L'Opera de Monte-Carlo.
The Bolshoi Ballet perform Yuri Grigorovich's version of the ballet
by Adolphe Adam. Svetlana Lunkina plays the title role with Dmitry
Gudanov as Count Albrecht and Maria Allash as the Queen of the
Wilis. When young peasant girl Giselle discovers that her lover,
Albrecht, is actually a nobleman in disguise who is due to be
married, she dies from despair. But when Albrecht's life is
threatened by the evil Wilis clan, Giselle's spirit returns to save
him. Pavel Klinichev conducts the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra.
