Mahfoozur Rahman, Sarwar Beg, Mazin A. Zamzami, Hani Choudhry, Aftab Ahmad, …
R2,584 Discovery Miles 25 840 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This new volume looks at the applications of biomarkers as important tools for herbal drug discovery, presenting research on phytoconstituents with advanced nanotechnological applications for healthcare benefits. Herbal drug discovery based on biomarkers is an emerging area in complementary and alternative medicine that has tremendous potential in healthcare. Conventional medications have limited efficacy and high toxicity, whereas herbal drugs are said to provide wide structural diversity that is not usually seen with conventional/synthetic drug molecules. Recognition of various herbal constituents, such as terpenoids, fatty acids, flavonoids and steroids, are well explored in the management and treatment of various disorders in this volume. These agents target various biomarkers such as nitric oxide (NO), cytokines, chemokines, adhesion molecules, NF- kβ, lipoxygenase (LOX), and arachidonic acid. Biomarkers as Targeted Herbal Drug Discovery: A Pharmacological Approach to Nanomedicines discusses phytoconstituent-based nanotherapeutics with applications for some specific health issues, such as arthritis, leishmanicidal, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, ocular disorders, etc.

Kamel A. Abd-Elsalam, Aftab Ahmad
R5,223 Discovery Miles 52 230 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Global Regulatory Outlook of CRISPRized Plants summarizes CRISPR/Cas systems and applications for precise editing of plant genomes and discusses the global regulatory framework for CRISPR edited crops. While CRISPR technology has become a routine, cheap and an efficient method to generate edited crops with superior traits, how these crops will be regulated, will determine the future of this technology. Understanding the current state of regulation, the concerns, issues and foundations for decisions will be key in determining how this technology is used going forward. Global Regulatory Outlook of CRISPRized Plants highlights regulatory classification of CRISPR modifications such as SDN1, SDN2 and SDN3 and their global regulation. and discusses the social, ethical, governance, and policy issues related to CRISPR edited crops. This important summary will be vital to the successful commercialization of CRISPR technology and biosafety concerns associated with this technology.

The data about the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis of approximately sixty patients was collected by interviewing them at various hospitals in District Narowal. The data had been analysed to determine the relative occurrence and incidence of rheumatoid arthritis by different age groups. The analysis shows the prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis was more in males (55%, n=33/60) as compared to females (45%, n=27/60). Rheumatoid arthritis was more prevalent in age group 41-50 years (32%, n=19/60) and less prevalent in age group 61-70 years (3%, n=2/60). In our sample population the prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis by age group 11-20 years was 10%, age group 21-30 years was 15%, age group 31-40 years was 28%, age group 41-50 years was 32%, age group 51-60 years was 12% and by age group 61-70 years was 3%. Prevalence is known as the number of all new cases and old cases of a disease during a given time. The prevalence of rheumatic diseases in developing countries is largely unknown. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease of modern civilization and attacking people in every part of the world and people of every field are being affected.

It was also muse to the celebrated short story writer of India and Pakistan, Saadat Hasan Manto. Manto's hard-edged, moving stories remain, a hundred years after his birth, startling and provocative. In searching out those forgotten by humanity - prostitutes, conmen and crooks - Manto wrote about what it means to be human.
