Rutger Hauer stars in this action comedy as a homeless man who
takes vigilantism to a new scale. Arriving in a new city, our hero
soon realises that it is a hotbed of crime and corruption presided
over by gang bosses and bent cops who will do nothing to deliver
justice. Armed robberies, prostitution and paedophilia are rife,
and the only obvious way to tackle the perpetrators is to take to
the streets with a 20-guage pump-action shotgun.

The cup that cheers
The First World War was considered the pinnacle in the development
of warfare following the dawn of the industrial age. For the first
time conflict on a global stage was fought on land, on and under
the sea and in the skies. This war of the machines swept away
swathes of humanity by the use of ruthlessly efficient means of
slaughter. Every human resource was needed because it could not be
waged solely by male armies on the fields of battle. This meant
that the role of women in western society would be changed forever.
Women became the industrial workforce, agricultural workers and the
custodians of transport and logistics. Thousands more, from nurses
to drivers, mechanics to entertainers, volunteered to provide
essential services to support the fighting men on the front line.
Many new and established organisations willingly put all their
resources into the war effort. To the troops of the allied armies
these volunteers-both men and women-were little short of angels,
providing for body and spirit under the most difficult
circumstances and their contribution to the morale of the soldiers
in action cannot be over estimated. The Y. M. C. A was at the
forefront of these activities, providing everything from essentials
to much appreciated little luxuries, from the opportunity for a
bath and shave to that mainstay of English or American life, a
good, hot and much needed 'cuppa' tea or coffee, accompanied by a
kind smile or a supportive word. This special Leonaur edition
contains three accounts of these remarkably brave volunteers on the
Western Front. Theirs was essential but often dangerous work and
many of them made the ultimate sacrifice. This fascinating book
relates an often unsung aspect of the Great War, but one which will
be of enormous interest to those who require a complete
understanding of the conflict and are interested in the changing
role of women in the early years of the 20th century.
Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each
title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket; our
hardbacks are cloth bound and feature gold foil lettering on their
spines and fabric head and tail bands.
Rachel's Redemption is a love story/mystery, the essence of the
narrative distilled in the life of a young South Korean woman whose
marriage to an American military man leads to a most horrendous
miscarriage of justice. The reader may be challenged to a closer
look at views too long blindly accepted, particularly concerning
the death penalty. Preview readers report inability to put the book
aside, it is so filled with surprises and mini-stories of the
diverse characters involved. Tender love stories and the revelation
of unexpected events intertwine with the main story line about
Rachel, providing incentive for non-stop page-turning and
over-whelming emotional response. Rachel's story should be
difficult to soon forget.
This anthology hopes to contribute, in particular, to the analysis
of the mutually constitutive interaction of the use of cyberspace
and Asian cultures, with particular attention to ethical, feminist,
and religious perspectives especially within Catholic Christianity.
The Whole Truth About Whole Numbers is an introduction to the field
of Number Theory for students in non-math and non-science majors
who have studied at least two years of high school algebra. Rather
than giving brief introductions to a wide variety of topics, this
book provides an in-depth introduction to the field of Number
Theory. The topics covered are many of those included in an
introductory Number Theory course for mathematics majors, but the
presentation is carefully tailored to meet the needs of elementary
education, liberal arts, and other non-mathematical majors. The
text covers logic and proofs, as well as major concepts in Number
Theory, and contains an abundance of worked examples and exercises
to both clearly illustrate concepts and evaluate the students'
mastery of the material.
It is well known that the world is becoming increasingly
globalized. Globalization implies the continual movement of people,
money, products, technology, and information across national
boundaries over time. This movement can have a huge impact on
communication, jobs, business, politics, and technology. Not
surprisingly, globalization has generated both challenges and
opportunities for the chemistry enterprise. This book focuses on
the transnational opportunties for the global chemistry enterprise.
The book is divided into two sections: 1) Transnational Study,
Research and Careers, and 2) International Entrepreneurship.
Because the emphasis of this book is on internationalization and
globalization, anyone interested in the global aspects of the
chemistry enterprise will find the book useful. The topics include
future chemistry curriculum, global preparedness of students,
international education exchange and research opportunities,
study-abroad programs, and international research collaborations.
Migration has become a defining feature of the contemporary age. It
has brought about significant changes in political, economic,
social, and religious landscapes. This volume explores a question
that has been little considered to date: how are churches being
transformed in the face of global migration? The book features
contributors from diverse national, denominational, cultural,
professional, and linguistic backgrounds. Their essays reveal the
ways in which migrants and the phenomenon of migration expose
longstanding gaps and failings within Christian communities.
However, the prevalence of migration and migrants simultaneously
opens up fresh possibilities for churches to grow, renew, becoming
more authentic, dynamic, and diverse. Church in an Age of Global
Migration presents a collage of embodied ecclesial practices,
understandings, and realities that have emerged and are continuing
to develop in the face of global migration. Committed to
transnational and ecumenical dialogue, and to integrating practical
and theoretical perspectives, this volume is the first to offer an
in-depth analysis of the ways in which churches are being changed
by migrants.

Early in the twentieth century, a Sioux woman named Zitkala-Sa
published these fourteen Native legends that she had learned during
her own childhood on the Yankton Reservation. Her writing talent,
developed during her education back east, was put to good use in
recording from oral tradition the exploits of Iktomi the trickster,
Eya the glutton, the Dragon Fly, and other magical and mysterious
figures, human and animal, known to the Sioux. Until her death in
1938, Zitkala-Sa stood between two cultures as preserver and
translator.
A city with the representation of literally hundreds of ethnic
groups, Chicago has rightfully earned its nickname as the melting
pot of America. The authors of The Great Chicago Melting Pot
Cookbook have selected a representative group of these
nationalities and, in over 400 recipes, have presented the best of
their native cuisine. One of the most distinguishing
characteristics of a culture is its cooking and The Great Chicago
Melting Pot Cookbook is a delightful way to get acquainted. Over
the years, American immigrants have adapted the recipes from their
homeland to reflect the tastes and available ingredients of their
new country. The recipes found here are easy for the American cook
to follow, yet still retain the character of the original cuisine.
