Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim entsprang einem verarmten Rittergeschlecht und wurde 1486 in Koln geboren. Nach einer Ausbildung in Jurispundenz und dem Selbststudium in Latein, Astrologie, Geometrie, Kabbala und der Hermetik trat er einer franzosischen Geheimgesellschaft bei unter deren Anleitung er geheimes Wissen der Antike erlernte. Es war dieses Wissen bzw. ein Teil davon, das er in mehreren okkulten Buchern zusammen fasste. Die hiermit vorliegenden "Magischen Werke" sind wohl seine bekanntesten Schopfungen. Das erste Bandchen der Magischen Werke liegt hier in unveranderter Form eines Druckes aus dem Jahre 1855 vor. Nichts wurde verandert, nichts wurde hinzugefugt oder weggelassen. Es mag in dieser Form nicht so einfach lesbar sein wie moderne Fassungen, doch sollte es dem Adepten nicht um ein besonders schnelles, sondern um besonders grundliches Studium gehen.
