This book contains a number of delightful children's poems written
by Aileen Cleveland Higgins accompanied by the beautifully delicate
illustrations of Jessie Willcox Smith. Many of the earliest
children's books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and
before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook
Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable,
high quality, colour editions, using the original text and artwork
so these works can delight another generation of children. About
the Illustrator: Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935) was one of
America's leading illustrators and epitomised the home life of the
late-Victorian period. Early on in her career, she was compared to
Kate Greenaway and her charming drawings depict a world of happy
families and heartfelt emotion although she herself never married
or had children. She illustrated over 200 covers of Good
Housekeeping as well as a multitude of children's books.

This Is A New Release Of The Original 1909 Edition.
1909. Cleveland's book is set in a modern mining camp in Nevada,
where the motherless heroine goes from a middle west village with
her father and begins her adventures. She finds her new home full
of color, variety, charm and fun. She finds, too, that sorrow jogs
very close to the elbow of joy and it becomes her heart's desire to
be an angel of service. Her father does not find a quick path to
wealth, but the Little Princess is as buoyant through their trying
experiences as at the end when Father Dick finally strikes his
ledge. Further adventures of the heroine can be found in A Little
Princess of the Pine.
