The Beatles were one of the most important musical phenomena of the
twentieth century, and together with their manager, Brian Epstein,
it can truly be stated that they changed the world. But there were
dark aspects to the Beatles story to go along with the
million-sellers, and the record-breaking tours. Lost opportunities,
millions of pounds lost or squandered or stolen, and the
involvement of some very unpleasant characters. "For No One" is the
story of the Beatles rise to super-stardom and their descent into a
petty squabbling break-up, and a decline highlighted by tragic
death and squalid murder and a host of unanswered questions.

It is the summer of 1950-and at the once-grand mansion of Buckshaw,
young Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for
poison, is intrigued by a series of inexplicable events: A dead
bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to
its beak. Then, hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the
cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.
For Flavia, who is both appalled and delighted, life begins in
earnest when murder comes to Buckshaw. "I wish I could say I was
afraid, but I wasn't. Quite the contrary. This was by far the most
interesting thing that had ever happened to me in my entire life."
Flavia de Luce, the twelve-year-old chemist and amateur detective
is eager to turn professional. She and her father's valet, Dogger,
have founded a detective agency, Arthur Dogger & Associates,
and unexpectedly cut into their first case during the revelry at
her sister Ophelia's wedding reception. After an eventful ceremony
with a missing best man and spontaneous ventriloquist act, spirits
are high as Feely and her new husband head for the towering and
beautifully iced wedding cake. But as Feely slices into the first
piece, a scream rings out - the bridal cake contains a severed
human finger. Delighted, Flavia wraps the finger in a napkin and
whisks it away to her chemical laboratory. By studying the embalmed
skin, the indentation of a ring, and the slope of the fingernail,
she'll not only be able to determine the identity of the victim -
but also point a finger at a killer.

Sunday CURIOUSITY WON'T KILL THIS CAT... Twelve-year-old Flavia de
Luce is back at Buckshaw at last, but her homecoming is
overshadowed by news of her father's illness. Forbidden from
visiting Colonel de Luce in hospital, Flavia busies herself in the
village, but she soon makes a macabre discover: the corpse of a
reclusive woodcarver hanging upside down on the back of a door, in
a house empty but for a curiously uncurious cat. While the local
constabulary are stumped, Flavia is soon piecing together a puzzle
that connects a death by murderous gulls on a desolate island, a
local woman said to be a witch, and a beloved children's author who
terrified his own son - plus, of course, a certain tortoise-shell
cat ...
Even ghosts have secrets... Two deaths, ten years apart, give
Flavia de Luce the distraction she needs at a time when her family
are more remote and dysfunctional than ever. Especially when a
bizarre series of deadly events is casting a long shadow over
everyone at Buckshaw. For Flavia, a gruesome crime to solve is only
one of the mysteries confronting her, as she begins to unravel the
shocking revelations surrounding the mysterious disappearance of
her mother. And as she starts putting the clues together, she
discovers an extraordinary tale of espionage and betrayal that may
also be the key to her own destiny. Praise for the historical

Alan Bradley, author of the most award-winning series debut of any
year, returns with another irresistible Flavia de Luce novel
In the hamlet of Bishop's Lacey, the insidiously clever and
unflappable eleven-year-old sleuth Flavia de Luce had asked a Gypsy
woman to tell her fortune--never expecting to later stumble across
the poor soul, bludgeoned almost to death in the wee hours in her
own caravan. Was this an act of retribution by those convinced that
the soothsayer abducted a local child years ago? Certainly Flavia
understands the bliss of settling scores; revenge is a delightful
pastime when one has two odious older sisters. But how could this
crime be connected to the missing baby? As the red herrings pile
up, Flavia must sort through clues fishy and foul to untangle dark
deeds and dangerous secrets.
Sunny skies, sleep water...and a sinister corpse Flavia is enjoying
the summer, spending her days punting along the river with her
reluctant family. Languishing in boredom, she drags a slack hand in
the water, and catches her fingers in the open mouth of a drowned
corpse. Brought to shore, the dead man is found to be dressed in
blue silk with ribbons at the knee, and wearing a single red ballet
slipper. Flavia needs to put her super-sleuthing skills to the test
to investigate the murder of three gossips in the local church, and
to keep her sisters out of danger. But what could possibly connect
the son of an executed killer, a far too canny police constable, a
travelling circus, and the publican's mysteriously talented wife?

Welcome to Bishop's Lacey. A murder every country mile For
eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, a visit to a Gypsy fortune-teller
is just a bit of fun - until the old woman claims to see a vision
of Flavia's mother, who died when Flavia was a baby. When the Gypsy
is brutally attacked, Flavia wonders if her appearance in the
village has stirred up memories of a tragic event from the past.
Flavia starts down a dark and twisting road to discover the truth -
but when a corpse is found in the grounds of Buckshaw, the de Luce

An ancient tomb...a very modern murder When the tomb of St Tancred
is opened, no one expects to find the body of the organist, lying
in a pool of blood, his handsome features covered by a gas mask.
Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce is intrigued. Why would anyone want
to kill the much-admired organist in such a brutal and bizarre
fashion? Why place his body in the tomb? And what happened to the
remains of the previous occupant? The mystery leads Flavia deep

In the deep midwinter, there's a murder to solve... Christmas is
coming and the snow is falling, but with the de Luce family
finances in a parlous state, Colonel de Luce has been forced to
rent out the family home to a film company. For Flavia and her
sisters it's as if all their belated Christmases have come at once
- but filming is soon slowed by a series of nasty accidents and
then brought to a halt as a heavy snowstorm cuts Buckshaw off from
the outside world. As they prepare to wait out the weather, they
are stunned by a gruesomely dramatic murder - and suddenly Flavia,
in the midst of designing an experiment to prove the existence of
Father Christmas - has another, far deadlier mystery to solve.

Eleven-year-old amateur detective and ardent chemist Flavia de Luce
is used to digging up clues, whether they're found among the
potions in her laboratory or between the pages of her insufferable
sisters' diaries. What she is not accustomed to is digging up
bodies. Upon the five-hundredth anniversary of St. Tancred's death,
the English hamlet of Bishop's Lacey is busily preparing to open
its patron saint's tomb. Nobody is more excited to peek inside the
crypt than Flavia, yet what she finds will halt the proceedings
dead in their tracks: the body of Mr. Collicutt, the church
organist, his face grotesquely and inexplicably masked. Who held a
vendetta against Mr. Collicutt, and why would they hide him in such
a sacred resting place? The irrepressible Flavia decides to find
out. And what she unearths will prove there's never such thing as
an open-and-shut case.
