Many client organisations occupy large and often diverse property
estates which require significant expenditure on maintenance,
alterations, refurbishment or small-scale new building work.
Effective organisation and efficient allocation of resources are
essential to ensure that the works are carried out
successfully. This book provides a detailed introduction to small
works procurement and management within the large client
organisation, a significant sector of the construction industry
which has hitherto been neglected by researchers. In the large
organisational context, characterised by large property holdings
perhaps over wide geographic areas, the importance of ensuring
maximum efficiency of resource use is crucial. If the regular and
numerous work which is required throughout the year is not carried
out in line with organisational goals then the core business will
suffer. The book focuses on the suitability, efficiency and
effectiveness of procurement, organisation and management of small
works, and outlines the main stages in the formulation and
implementation of well-defined and measurable objectives. Overall
it will enable the reader to understand the decision factors
involved in designing a small works procurement strategy. The
Procurement and Management of Small Works and Minor Maintenance is
an indispensible reference for all facilities managers, consultants
and contractors. It is also useful reading for undergarduate and
postgraduate courses in building, construction management,
maintenance and facilities management.
Provides knowledge, understanding and guidance to the detailed and
complex requirements of health and safety legislation as applied to
the construction industry. This book provides the knowledge,
understanding and guidance to the CDM regulations that students in

links in with the CIOB Education Framework at levels 2 and 3.
Integrated management systems (IMS) are an innovative way of
handling the plethora of management functions and procedures that
are applied throughout major construction projects. Contracting
companies use management systems to shape and define the corporate
arrangement of their business activities, translating these into
operational procedures for application to the construction projects
they undertake. The management of quality, environment, and safety
are at the forefront of systems evolution where the integration of
these traditionally independent and dedicated standards-based and
process-orientated systems can provide the potential to deliver
greater organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
This is the first textbook to cover each of the international
standards for quality, safety and environment (ISO9000, ISO14001
and ISO18001) and to discuss integrating them. This book provides a
detailed yet accessible text to support the study of quality,
environment, and safety management systems on professionally
accredited undergraduate courses throughout the built environment
and for advanced postgraduate courses in construction, project, and
engineering management. It is also an indispensible reference for
construction professionals working for principal contractors,
subcontractors and construction industry supply chain
organisations.
Ordo Romanus Primus (ORP) is a descriptive account in Latin of the
papal mass at Easter in Santa Maria Maggiore, probably at some time
in the seventh or eighth century. It is the first such account, and
differs from earlier evidence of the Roman rite by its relative
disregard for the spoken text, which is usually only cited in ORP
as providing cues for the ceremonial action. The 'action', however,
is detailed, is often surprising, and gives a three-dimensional
approach to a rite which, in its textual form, only tells the half
of what was happening. The whole action is set on a large canvas,
so that the account starts with the procession of the papal
household from the Lateran. As Alan Griffiths put it 'the nature of
ORP is to be a key to ritual business, not to text', and he adds
'one might describe it as an "events management" document.' There
has been no full edition of the text in English since that of
Atchley in 1905, and his translation has today a highly dated look
to it. Alan Griffiths has drawn upon the Latin text collated by
Michel Andrieu in his French edition of the ordines Romani in 1948,
and has provided his own fresh and contemporary translation of it
into English, running in parallel columns with the Latin. It makes
a valuable addition to the series of Joint Liturgical Studies which
have made such a large range of patristic liturgical materials
available to students who work largely in English.
