The Lightning Bolts of Zeus (Hardcover): D. Alan Lewis The Lightning Bolts of Zeus (Hardcover)
D. Alan Lewis
R563 Discovery Miles 5 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Jasmine and Thyme Hawke are sisters and U.S. Secret Service agents. While investigating what appears to be a simple train robbery along the troubled U.S./Mexican border, they uncover clues that suggest a larger conspiracy is afoot. An unknown force has discovered the resting place of a long-lost Confederate airship named Zeus. The Hawke Girls know that the aerial monstrosity carried the most powerful weapon ever built, a technology that has never been duplicated and if it falls in to the wrong hands could change the world. Plagued with guilt over their mother's death, Jasmine struggles to keep herself focused on the mission, while her inexperienced younger sister is forced to come to terms with the difficulties of her first mission and her first taste of love. Braving running gun battles, mechanized battlesuits, and aerial warships, the Hawke Girls travel from the American southwest to Cuba, and finally, to the jungles of southern Mexico, but will they find Zeus first or be forced to battle an enemy that wields the power of the gods?

Spin Dynamics in Radical Pairs (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2018): Alan Lewis Spin Dynamics in Radical Pairs (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2018)
Alan Lewis
R3,106 Discovery Miles 31 060 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book sheds new light on the dynamical behaviour of electron spins in molecules containing two unpaired electrons (i.e. a radical pair). The quantum dynamics of these spins are made complicated by the interaction between the electrons and the many nuclear spins of the molecule; they are intractable using analytical techniques, and a naive numerical diagonalization is not remotely possible using current computational resources. Hence, this book presents a new method for obtaining the exact quantum-mechanical dynamics of radical pairs with a modest number of nuclear spins. Readers will learn how a calculation that would take 13 years using conventional wavepacket propagation can now be done in 1 day, and will also discover a new semiclassical method for approximating the dynamics in the presence of many nuclear spins. The new methods covered in this book are shown to provide significant insights into three topical and diverse areas: charge recombination in molecular wires (which can be used in artificially mimicking photosynthesis), magnetoelectroluminescence in organic light-emitting diodes, and avian magnetoreception (how birds sense the Earth's magnetic field in order to navigate).

The Blood in Snowflake Garden (Hardcover): D. Alan Lewis The Blood in Snowflake Garden (Hardcover)
D. Alan Lewis
R566 Discovery Miles 5 660 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Can murder happen in the jolliest city on Earth? During the early months of 1965, Vladimir Volsky, the Premier of Santa's city at the North Pole is shot and killed in a city where firearms are forbidden. Max Sneed, a retired Police chief finds himself reluctantly drawn back into service to investigate the murder. For Max, exploring the dark seedy side of the jolliest city on Earth is nothing compared to facing the demons of his own past. He is joined by a young British journalist, Robert Watson. Rob finds himself disillusioned by the short comings of the North Pole as well as how the turbulent events of the 1960's are echoed in Santa's city. The men soon learn that this is far more than just a simple killing. As the list of suspects grows, the murder becomes intertwined with cold war politics, corporate espionage, labor disputes and a growing civil rights movement that threatens to destroy everything that Santa has built.

Christopher Alan Lewis
R1,378 Discovery Miles 13 780 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Comprising a selection of contemporary state of the art research that focuses on psychological type, religion, and culture, this book can be divided into two particular areas of research. The first section focuses on the religion and psychological type of Church leaders, while the second section reports on Church members, their religion, and their psychological type. The book attests to the importance of Jungian Psychological Type theory in understanding individual differences in religiosity within a variety of samples. Authored by a wide range of international scholars, employing a wide range of measures, among diverse samples and in a variety of different cultures, this research provides an important contribution to current and future research. It facilitates future research work in the area outside of the white, Anglo-Saxon, Anglophone, Christian context on which it has traditionally been focused. This book was originally published as a double special issue of the Mental Health, Religion & Culture journal.

R1,300 Discovery Miles 13 000 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Assessment of mental health, religion and culture: The development and examination of psychometric measures focuses on questionnaires that are of practical value for researchers interested in examining the relationship between the constructs of mental health, religion, and culture. Three particular areas of development and evaluation are represented within this volume: firstly, the psychometric properties of recently developed new questionnaires; secondly, the psychometric properties of established questionnaires that have been translated into other languages; and thirdly, the psychometric properties of questionnaires employed in various cultural contexts and religious samples. The research in this book is authored by a wide range of international scholars working on diverse samples and in a variety of different cultures. In doing so, the book facilitates future research in the area of mental health, religion, and culture. This book was originally published as two special issues of Mental Health, Religion & Culture.

Ethics and Economic Affairs (Paperback): Alan Lewis, Karl-Erik Warneryd Ethics and Economic Affairs (Paperback)
Alan Lewis, Karl-Erik Warneryd
R1,632 Discovery Miles 16 320 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

There has been a remarkable growth of interest in the ethical dimension of economic affairs. Whilst the interest in business ethics has been long-standing, it has been given renewed emphasis by high profile scandals in the world of business and finance. At the same time many economists, dissatisfied with the discipline's emphasis on self-interest and individualism, and by the asocial nature of much economic theory, have sought to enlarge the scope of economics by looking at ethical questions. In this volume a group of interdisciplinary scholars provide contributions which include evaluations of work in business ethics, empirical studies of such issues as social and ethical investing, the place of ethics in the new economics and perspectives from other disciplines.

Alan Lewis, Dan McKone
R681 R610 Discovery Miles 6 100 Save R71 (10%) Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Are you missing opportunities for growth that are right in front of you? In today's volatile economic environment, filled with uncertainty and sudden change, the forces pushing you to stay focused on the core business are extremely powerful. Profiting from the core is crucial, but the danger is that overfocus on the core can blind companies. Scanning the horizon for new markets and new products can also be tempting, but risky. Fixating too much on either strategy can cause you to miss the substantial opportunities for growth that are often hidden in plain sight, at the edge of the core business. In this insightful yet practical book, strategy experts Alan Lewis and Dan McKone articulate a mindset that helps leaders recognize and capitalize on these opportunities. The Edge Strategy framework challenges how the boundaries of your existing products and services map to your customers' views of the world and then provides three different lenses through which you can see and leverage value: * Product edge. How to capture incremental profits and other benefits by slightly altering the elements and composition of a core offering * Journey edge. How to create and capture extra value by adjusting your role in supporting the customer's journey to and through your offering * Enterprise edge. How to unlock additional value from resources and capabilities that support your core offering by applying them in a different context, for a different offering or different set of customers With engaging examples across many industries, Lewis and McKone coach you on how to identify and assess each of the different "edges" and then provide concrete insights and advice on applying edge strategy and tactics to use in specific business contexts. The book concludes with a ten-step process to help executives and managers find and leverage the edges in their own companies. Edge Strategy is the concise, hands-on guide for growing your business by getting more yield from assets already in place, relationships already established, and investments already made.

A Key to the Hebrew Alphabet and Numbers (Paperback): Alan Lewis Silva A Key to the Hebrew Alphabet and Numbers (Paperback)
Alan Lewis Silva
R792 Discovery Miles 7 920 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The Hebrew alphabet is composed of 22 letters. This book provides a key to the many and very interesting facets of awareness pertaining to them. The contents here have been thoroughly researched from many sources. This key provides valuable insights about the Holy Bible and its relationship and identity correlating to the Hebrew letters. This book is knowledge for life. The Holy Bible is used as support for these keys, relying on the King James Version translation, and numerical values and word associations of each Hebrew letter are provided on a reliable basis that can be tested through the readers' own Bible studies and life experiences. Also included are four of the not-so-well known but interesting and relevant books of Jewish and Christian Apocrypha, not Scripture, yet worth reading. These are The Wisdom of Solomon (The King James Version), Psalms of Solomon, Odes of Solomon, and The Gospel of Thomas. Please make up your own mind about what you believe, and what you want to believe.
