discusses the long evolution of the idea that foreign state and private financing can be used to protect tropical forests and the carbon stored within them, resulting in both local economic development and global climate benefits. links the literature on REDD+ with that covering Indonesias recent democratic regression, highlighting how the countrys environmental performance is inextricably linked to the timbre of its political governance. This book will be of great interests to students and scholars of political ecology, deforestation, climate change, environmental politics, natural resource management and environmental conservation.
This new edition has been updated with information relevant to the newest Basic Stamp, the BS2P, and revised to present more advanced projects. The result is a superb hands-on teaching text with dozens of completely new projects in addition to enhanced projects that take advantage of its latest features. (Computer Books - Languages/Programming)
This edition covers the powerful BS2P and many more peripheral options that expand its power. It features several projects including an RS232-controlled power supply and a bridge that lets a Stamp connected to a PC communicate via the Internet. Each chapter provides exercises to conform your understanding of key topics. You will learn how to use Stamp's: I/O commands Analog output capabilities Analog input to build a capacitance meter Built-in serial commands I/O interface capability Robotic capabilities The downloadable files are available at www.awce.com/stampcd.zip
Geologically Active contains over 500 papers from 44 countries worldwide, which were presented at the 11th Congress of the IAEG, and includes the state-of-the-art on practise in engineering geology. Engineering geology now extends into a host of linked fields: disaster risk management and climate change, preservation of lifelines, geophysics, interpretation of satellite imagery, communication, instrumentation, mining, tunnelling, groundwater, rehabilitation and brown-field development, wine, recyclable materials, ethics, and education. Communication with non-specialists and developing green solutions has never been more important and the industry is evolving tools and emerging ideas to more appropriately achieve this. This volume brings together engineering, science and practice to focus on the very real effects of active geological processes on communities and infrastructure and their development. The theme of Geologically Active is developed through five chapters focussing on assessment and identification of natural hazards, the meeting of geological phenomena with people and infrastructure to create risk, approaches to hazard mitigation around the world, application of engineering geological techniques and practice, site investigation and geotechnical modelling, and engineering geology in the global economy, bridging the gap between scientists, engineers and non-practitioners in a changing world environment. Geologically Active encourages the transformation of science research into practice, offering a connection between scientific progress and community resilience, and will be invaluable to engineering and geological academics and consultants, government organizations, and power and mining companies.
Magnetic component designers are always looking for improved soft magnetic core materials to increase the efficiency, temperature rating and power density of transformers, motors, generators and alternators, and energy density of inductors. In this paper, we report on the experimental investigation of commercially available cobalt-based amorphous alloys which, in their processing, were subjected to two different types of magnetic field anneals: A longitudinal magnetic field anneal or a transverse magnetic field anneal. The longitudinal field annealed material investigated was Metglas 2714A. The electrical and magnetic characteristics of this material were investigated over the frequency range of 1 to 200 kHz and temperature range of 23 to 150 C for both sine and square wave voltage excitation. The specific core loss was lower for the square than the sine wave voltage excitation for the same maximum flux density, frequency and temperature. The transverse magnetic field annealed core materials include Metglas 2714AF and Vacuumschmelze 6025F. These two materials were experimentally characterized over the frequency range of 10 to 200 kHz for sine wave voltage excitation and 23 C only. A comparison of the 2174A to 2714AF found that 2714AF always had lower specific core loss than 2714A for any given magnetic flux density and frequency and the ratio of specific core loss of 2714A to 2714AF was dependent on both magnetic flux density and frequency. A comparison was also made of the 2714A, 2714AF, and 6025F materials to two different tape thicknesses of the polycrystalline Supermalloy material and the results show that 2714AF and 6025F have the lowest specific core loss at 100 kHz over the magnetic flux density range of 0.1 to 0.4 Tesla.
This is a new release of the original 1940 edition.
