Jessica and her son Tommy discover a kitten in their yard that is soaking wet and without a collar. Having wanted a pet, Tommy takes to it at once as it appears to be a gift of luck. Then Jessica begins seeing a dark figure around the house and a killer on the loose continues to draw nearer to them both with each passing day. The killer and 7 year old Tommy are the only two who realize the kitten has a unique gift which has now linked it to Tommy, pulling danger closer to them all and neither family nor friends are safe anymore.

Tommy and his family continue to recover from their ordeal with a madman having brought so much hardship to their lives, but as an incident takes place near his school, it becomes evident that their lives have far to go before they can move forward and Tommy must come to terms with his gifts and responsibilities before he can confront the storm of nightmares growing stronger and fuled by the Ripples of Mind.
