Kern der Arbeit von Alexander Kohs ist die Herleitung einer Methode zur Bestimmung der Alterung von Batterien. Durch Anwendung der statistischen Versuchsplanung parametriert der Autor dabei ein Batteriemodell mit einer minimalen Anzahl von Versuchen. Es kommen unterschiedliche Charakterisierungsmethoden zur Bestimmung des Batteriezustands zum Einsatz. Neben der Bestimmung der Restkapazitat und des Innenwiderstands sind dies Impedanzspektroskopie und Pulsmessung. Die Ergebnisse der Charakterisierung werden mithilfe einer multiplen Regression modelliert.
