Der tatsachliche Gehalt dieser Perikope geht jedoch weit uber das hinaus, was die heutige Popularkultur uber dieses Thema zu wissen meint. Hierzu gelangt man allerdings erst, wenn man sich der Erzahlung mit den Methoden alttestamentlicher Exegese nahert. Das ist vor allem auch in Hinblick auf die Motive und Schichten, die die Erzahlung letztlich bilden, erforderlich. Dabei treten Erkenntnisse zutage, die man so nicht vermutet hatte und die einen tief in die Geschichte und die Kultur des Alten Orients hineinnehmen. Die folgende Arbeit widmet sich besonders der Literar- und Redaktionskritik unter Berucksichtigung der Uberlieferungsgeschichte, betrachtet die Makrostruktur des Textaufbaus und untersucht unter anderem detailliert den historischen Ort dieser Perikope.
