This volume is dedicated to Professor Stefan Samko on the occasion
of his seventieth birthday. The contributions display the range of
his scientific interests in harmonic analysis and operator theory.
Particular attention is paid to fractional integrals and
derivatives, singular, hypersingular and potential operators in
variable exponent spaces, pseudodifferential operators in various
modern function and distribution spaces, as well as related
applications, to mention but a few. Most contributions were firstly
presented in two conferences at Lisbon and Aveiro, Portugal, in
June-July 2011.

A child with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) faces a childhood
and adolescence with a disability that develops gradually. This
book intends to expose the problems of children with DMD. The
authors discuss situations related to the disease in an attempt to
provide some quality and improvement of life for those affected
since DMD is a degenerative disease which affects muscle. This book
offers a historical study of muscular dystrophy. It also shows some
profiles of excellent clinicians and scientists that have
contributed to this book with a description of muscular dystrophy
from the clinical picture, to the latest techniques in genetics.
Also included in the chapters are resolutions of several approaches
to DMD, like scales, in order to anticipate how to manage the
disease. This book relates some techniques of moderate exercise,
like Yoga and water exercises, that are compliable with some
advantages in mobility. The book concludes with some current trends
and what can be done in the future. This book can be a good read to
everyone that is interested in DMD, and also for the ones who know
or provide care for those with this terrible disease.
This study contributes to the addressing of the Patent-R&D
relationship from a new perspective, analyzing a crucial yet
ignored question: Can more patents have a negative effect on
R&D investment? Offering an extensive synthesizes of existing
theoretical and empirical literature, we focus on the arguments
that might sustain a negative impact of patents over R&D. The
Patent system seems to have created an incentive to massive
patenting with no perceivable significant(maybe even negative as
our results show) impact on R&D and as for certain introduced a
set of costs that may actually lower the optimal R&D investment
level of firms and slow down technological progress. This book
builds a strong case against the one-size-fits-all approach of IPR
legislation across different technological fields and across
different stages of country development, providing an intresting
reading both for policy makers, as well as academic researchers.
Nevertheless, its comprehensiveness and easy-to-read text also
makes it suitable for the general public.
